BWXT is currently seeking a Business Development Manager for its Advanced Technologies location in Lynchburg, VA!

BWXT is People Strong, Innovation Driven - be part of BWXT’s innovation hub. BWXT’s Advanced Technologies (AT) group researches, designs, and develops innovative new nuclear reactors, nuclear rocket propulsion systems, and radioisotope production systems for both internal and external customers.

The Business Development Manager will be working in the areas of marketing, sales, capture planning, contracting and proposal development activities for BWXT Advanced Technologies in the areas of Terrestrial and Space Nuclear Reactor Development, Isotope Generation, and Advanced Manufacturing. The BD Manger will be responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of business cases, business and capture plans in highly competitive and complex markets. Potential customers include energy utility companies, industrial users, the US Department of Energy and other government agencies. He/she may also interface with US regulatory bodies, supply chain and participate in professional associations forums. The ideal candidate will need to identify, qualify, and capture opportunities.

Job Description / Duties:

  • Contribute to defining BWXT Advanced Technology's business development program budgets, plans, strategies and tactics.

  • Interface with potential customers, stakeholders and partners to identify, qualify and capture new business opportunities.

  • Develop and successfully execute potential customer capture plans and serve as Capture Manager for assigned opportunities.

  • Write winning proposals and respond to customer inquiries in a timely manner.

  • Plan, execute and participate in potential customer and industry briefings.

  • Plan, execute and contribute to the development and maintenance of Reactor Design Cost Models.

  • Work with Contract Management and Legal on contract markup & negotiation to successfully book work.

  • Work with Project/Program Management to ensure proposals and programs are established to meet industry and BWXT standard project management processes and procedures.

  • Maintain a high ethical standard of practice, including compliance with all company procedures.

    Job Qualifications / Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering (ABET-accredited) or related field is required. A Master’s degree is preferred.

  • At least ten (10) years of experience in the nuclear sector is required.

  • At least five (5) years of leadership / supervisory experience is required.

  • Must have a high-level knowledge of Nuclear Technology (Reactors, Manufacturing & Isotope Generation).

  • Must be familiar with major procurement/contracting mechanisms (T&M, FFP, performance-based, FAR based).

  • A working knowledge of U.S. nuclear export control rules and regulations including ITAR is required.

  • Experience communicating effectively with Technical Staff is required.

  • Must have excellent communication and presentations skills including PowerPoint.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills are required.

  • Must have computer proficiency with Microsoft products, especially Excel.

  • Must be fluent in English - written and verbal.

  • Travel (>20%) domestic and international.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.
