Overview

This position is responsible for directing and coordinating material handling personnel for the company's material unloading facilities to ensure safe and reliable equipment operation in order to receive, unload and provide plant's material (coal and limestone) requirements in the most cost-effective manner.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct safety observations and investigate changes to procedures to avoid unsafe practices and ensure a safe work environment.

  • Provide technical direction and assistance to support activities of material handling personnel.

  • Ensure optimum allocation of operating resources in the operation of the material handling system.

  • Ensure that scales and samplers are properly operated and maintained and meet or exceed all operability and accuracy commitments.

  • Support continuous improvement of material handling activities (planning, execution, communication, and follow-up).

  • Review equipment operations records for accuracy and pertinence for equipment history.

  • Review equipment operations trends and integrate industry trends to predict equipment maintenance requirements.

  • Develop and conduct daily job briefings and weekly safety tailgate and information sessions for material handling personnel to ensure adequate safety precautions and hazard communication concerning work assignments.

  • Prioritize, assign and coordinate work performed by material handling personnel ensuring optimal resource utilization.

  • Ensures accuracy of material unloading entries logged, including coal car and barge numbers and dates material was unloaded.

  • Develop operational recommendations in support of asset role and business objectives. Provide information and assist in the development of material handling budget, operating, and investment plans.

  • Develop employees by providing coaching, career counseling and developmental opportunities. Develop and review material handling employee’s performance evaluations. Take an active role in managing and improving employee performance.

  • Maintain accurate records of employee hours worked and appropriate cost allocation.

  • Ensure the uniform compliance of all company policies, procedures, and uniform work rules.

  • Ensure that assigned personnel are in compliance with applicable governmental regulations and reporting requirements.

  • Direct material handling activities which provide for a safe, accident-free workplace.

  • Develop plans (work scope, schedule, resource requirements, etc.) for operational activity execution required to meet plant material handling demands and business objectives.

  • Develop checklists for operational processes including special instructions for equipment outages and routine maintenance processes.

  • Identify opportunities and plan activities that continuously improve business competitive position with regards to costs and quality.

  • Identify and develop execution plans for preventive and predictive maintenance activities aimed at improving reliability and availability.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervision and management team.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • 5+ years experience in related utility operation, including material handling equipment and procedures knowledge

Preferred Qualifications

  • Team builder and coach, motivator and energizer;

  • ability to provide candid and constructive feedback;

  • written and verbal communication skills;

  • knowledge of basic computer skills;

  • capable of establishing goals and objectives to support strategic initiatives;
