Position Purpose This position is responsible for management and oversight of all aspects of construction and maintenance activities related to transmission substations. Includes formal supervision of exempt, non-exempt, and/or hourly employees.
Position may be located in Louisville or Lexington.
Required Education & Experience B.S. Engineering. Minimum 10 year job-related industry experience in engineering or construction discipline preferred. Understanding of utility protection systems, maintenance practices and construction management is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications Supervisory and strong interpersonal/communication skills. Leadership skills. Working knowledge of industry transmission and generation systems, including economic and engineering principles regarding interconnections with neighboring utilities. Working knowledge of applicable safety rules and procedures. PC skills. Strong project management skills. Ability to understand complex analytical measurement systems and the application of various types of technologies. Decision making skills.
Job Description Manages the preventative and corrective maintenance plans for all equipment related to transmission substations, including relay and control systems. This includes managing to an annual budget as well as the development of a five year business plan to address O&M needs for transmission substations.
Ensures best practices and develops implementation strategies related to Cascade. This includes the implementation and updating of preventative maintenance schedules and reporting mechanisms that include the tracking and trending of pertinent asset data.
Supports the development of equipment specifications and supply chain initiatives through the participation in bid evaluations.
Ensures the completion of compliance related testing and provides the reporting and associated documentation as part of supporting evidence.
Leads and manages cross-functional work groups during system restoration efforts.
Oversees the installation and maintenance of transmission substation equipment including all substation apparatus as well as protective relaying. Recommends strategies for the efficient execution of transmission substation capital projects.
Coordinates with transmission substation engineering to develop and manage the 5-year business plan to address capital needs for transmission substations.
Accountable for input to the budget and forecasting construction labor costs. Utilizes performance metrics to lead and oversee substation asset strategies for transmission substations.
Works with staff to monitor equipment failure trends and complete root cause analysis for significant events with the purpose of developing strategies to mitigate risks. This includes making recommendations for capital replacement strategies to address equipment with high failure rates that cannot be cost-effectively maintained.
Supervises exempt, non-exempt, and hourly employees within the Transmission Substation construction and maintenance department, including planning, job assignments, development, and performance appraisals.
Establishes and implements company policies and practices related to substations construction and maintenance functions throughout the transmission system.
Supports project management activities that include providing updates to project schedules.
Provides maintenance technical support for all aspects of transmission system and substations operational activities, including diagnostics, forensic analysis, and repair strategies.
Develops, implements, and tracks spare equipment and replacement strategies.
