Ensure all personnel under responsibility perform work in accordance with applicable regulatory and Company safety rules.Ensure all personnel under responsibility are trained and developed to be knowledgeable of applicable substation construction, maintenance, repair, and operating standards commensurate with their assignments and position. Ensure personnel, equipment, and material resources are optimized, through effective planning, scheduling, and execution of Electrical Safe Work Procedures (i.e. switching, Lock-out/Tag-out, grounding, etc.)Serve as the liaison between Supervision, the DCC, and TCC to coordinate any work performed by the Substation personnel.Coordinate switching at Transmission Loop switches as necessary. Coordinate execution of routine substation maintenance procedures including station inspections, and emulsifier system testing.Effectively direct field employees in the execution of planned, unplanned, and emergency restoration work.Write outage requests and assist with outage coordination.Assist substation engineers in the development and/or review of written “In-Service” procedures for substation equipment.Coordinate the retrieval and recording of substation records, annunciator alarms, relay targets, etc. Documentation of Substation Operating Procedures including routine review pf existing procedures for accuracy and make recommendations for revisions as necessary.Review substation switching diagrams and coordinate necessary revisions with the Substation Drafting department.Utilize Cascade for updating equipment records, work orders, triggers, etc.Evaluate and discuss employee’s job performance and progress, with Team Leader to assist in employee performance reviews, evaluations, recommendations for promotion, or disciplinary action.Assist Group Leader in establishing training objectives and help ensure that all substation employees are properly trained. Assist in conducting fact-finding investigations and participate in the decision-making process.All other job duties as assigned.
Primarily desk work with some standing, walking, and climbing stairs.
Good written and oral communication skills.Good organizational, planning, prioritizing, scheduling, and budgeting skills.Excellent computer and software skills. Experience in Word and Excel preferred.Self-motivation and the ability to cope and implement change.
Normal office and service center/shop environment with frequent electrical substation visits. Some off-site meetings throughout the LG&E service territory.Position will be required to fulfill periodic on-call rotations.
Required Education & Experience:
High school Diploma/GED and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in electric distribution substations construction, maintenance, repair, and operations as well as Journeyman classification as Substation Operator, Equipment or Protection Technician. Must have advanced working knowledge of equipment, switching procedures, grounding procedures, and operational procedures associated with substations, transmission and distribution lines, and generation facilities.

Position shall direct, and coordinate substation operation technicians assigned to switch or operate, card, maintain, ground, and inspect electrical substation equipment. Position is responsible for ensuring that departmental personnel are properly trained and developed, and that all safety rules and work practices are followed. Position is also responsible for assuring that departmental personnel complete work in accordance with applicable Company and regulatory standards, and that all work is completed with consideration for the customer experience.
