Job Function Engineering
Position Purpose This position performs gas utility engineering work and requires independent application of standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Departmental areas of responsibility include, gas regulatory compliance, operating policies and standards, and gas system computer network analysis. (Synergi Gas) for valve program analysis.
This position is responsible for updating and executing the company’s distribution integrity management plan and program in accordance with compliance with 49 CFR Part 192 Subpart P of the federal pipeline safety regulations and other applicable industry standards.
Required Education & Experience Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited school. EIT certification recommended.
Preferred Qualifications A minimum of two to three years of experience in gas operations or gas regulatory compliance. Demonstrated proficiency and/or working knowledge of DNV GL Synergi gas system analysis and valve area isolation software.
Strong analytical skills.
Ability to assimilate information on a wide range of gas industry topics. Demonstrated proficiency and/or working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS software, SharePoint, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access.
Job Description Be knowledgeable of and proficiently apply various code references which pertain to the gas distribution system; this includes but may not be limited to 49 CFR Part 192, API RP 1104 and 1162, and LG&E’s Pipeline Public Awareness and Damage Prevention programs and other applicable industry standards.
Gas Distribution Integrity Management Program - Help implement and oversee the distribution integrity management program and distribution system maximum allowable operating pressure validation program.
Utilize integrity management software to select, evaluate, and track risk mitigation measures.
Establish and maintain integrity management procedures.
Evaluate the program effectiveness and help identify program improvements.
Ensure the program satisfies related federal and state pipeline safety regulations and company policies.
Gas Distribution Designated Valve Program
- Utilize gas system planning and valve area isolation software to identify valves assigned to the designated valve program. Update annual a gas distribution area isolation report.
Mechanical Coupling Program
- Assist with data collection, inspection, analysis and reporting requirements for mechanical couplings.
Gas Operations Material Committee
Assist with tracking of materials and material certifications, developing a central manufacturer material record keeping library.
Assist with material/product failures and manufacturing issues.
Assist with reviewing any material issues raised through QA inspections.
Regulatory Oversight and Reporting
Assist with annual gas distribution data reporting.
Assist with monthly excavation damage reconciliation reporting.
Assist with residential regulator sampling reporting.
Industry Data Collection Initiatives
Assist with responding to gas industry surveys.
Assist with annual AGA plastic pipe and fitting data collection initiative submittals.
Help develop functional requirements and specifications for new information technology systems and enhancements to existing systems.
Work with other groups including Gas Operations, Gas Construction, Gas Control and other operating areas to present information on the condition of LG&E’s gas system and infrastructure.
Represent company in audits with state regulatory commissions. Complete necessary audit preparations using commission audit protocols.
Initiate, track, and report on various metrics that detail progress on monthly and annual basis.
All other duties and projects as assigned.
Work Conditions Equally balanced between an office environment and field work. The field work requires the ability to inspect work in trenches, frequent walking and climbing.
Physical Effort Primarily desk work with some standing and walking and field work including work in excavations.
