Job Description SummaryThe Market Strategy team is seeking a Team Lead to join their group. This role will have an impact in the transformation and strategic direction of AES Clean Energy within the US power markets. The candidate will lead a small team to maintain a perspective on macro trends and the competitive landscape in the US Renewable Power Market and produce insights to inform decisions and execution of AES Clean Energy’s growth targets. This position will work closely with various functional teams across the AES Clean Energy organization and take ambiguous topics and relate them into actionable research through combining primary and secondary research with the goal of assisting in the alignment of the ACE’s strategic views.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities: As a Team Lead, the responsibilities include:
Developing and maintaining relationships with the regional teams to identify key developments, emerging needs, and business challenges.
Supplying the market and competitive intelligence component of strategic planning, and proactively making recommendations to management concerning key intelligence items that require further consideration.
Collecting, analyzing, and maintaining power market data for competitive benchmarking and analysis.
Researching future renewable energy demand, opportunities, and procurement goals of U.S. corporations and utilities.
Identifying emerging industries and or market trends that have potential for commercial opportunities
Conducting financial analysis centered on power generation economics
Having the ability to understand and explain financial, statistical, and qualitative data analysis of markets and competitors..
Having the ability to articulate and present key actionable market and competitor insights to the management team using modern visualization tools.
Translating ambiguous business questions into well-defined market and intelligence inquiries.
Providing market and competitive insights through presentations and reports to various internal management teams to allow effective strategic and tactical decision-making and implementation.
Conducting/maintaining routine and ad hoc competitive benchmarking and analysis
Identify economic impact of changes to U.S. policy impacting the transition to renewable energy.
Develop and maintain internally developed data management and analysis tools
Support the preparation and submittal of market strategy plans to AES management team. Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in business management, economics, finance, engineering, computer science or related technical field.
3+ years of related experience in energy, power market or consulting.
Knowledge of the energy markets and the development of renewable energy projects within both RTO and non-RTO regions.
Demonstrable understanding of commodity market fundamentals as it related to the power markets and sufficient commercial acumen to translate market factors to produce insights to inform decisions and execution.
Advanced Microsoft Office Suite proficiency and comfort using web-based industry intelligence solutions.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to turn raw data from a variety of resources into useful information with minimal oversight.
Quick learner, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent verbal and communication skills.
Must be detail oriented with excellent verbal and communication skills.
Experience working with large amounts of time series data. Qualifications/Experience that would be beneficial:
Master’s degree in business management, economics, finance, engineering, computer science or related field.
1+ years of experience working with ISO interconnection queue data and an understanding of the different stages of the interconnection process.
Familiarity with commodity price, EIA, EPA, and ISO data.
Working knowledge of SQL.
Experience managing a small team
