AES Clean Energy is currently seeking a Safety Manager to oversee Clean Energy Safety in the Western Region on the United States. Environmental, Health, and Safety plans and compliance for solar, wind, and solar + battery storage sites.

The position will be remote. However, the ideal candidate will live or be willing to relocate to the Denver, Colorado area and be available to travel to one of our office locations when required.

The position reports to the Senior Safety Manager of Clean Energy. The role requires the ability to oversee EHS plans and compliance on multiple operating sites with routine travel to sites to audit compliance with AES Clean Energy’s EHS policies and local requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with AES Clean Energy’s Operations team to review EHS programs, audit operations sites for compliance with EHS policies, consult internally to project teams on EHS related issues, and manage internal EHS reporting with support from the Operations team.

  • Work with the operations teams to implement corporate EHS programs on active sites and improve processes and mentorship related to EHS management.

  • Lead direct reports.

  • Lead activities and efforts around EHS-related incidents and investigations. Perform Root Cause Analysis in collaboration with the project team during EHS incident investigation.

  • Contributes to development of EHS strategy and action plans for AES Clean Energy to meet EHS targets, reduce risks, and improve performance.

  • Maintain compliance with all applicable EHS regulations and requirements.

  • Maintain and continually improve the EHS Management Systems (EMS and SMS).

  • Develop and deliver EHS related training as needed.

  • Contribute to achieving EHS targets in support of business objectives.

  • Act as an advisor and technical expert on issues related to EHS on the company’s operating sites.

  • Understand budgeting and purchasing.

  • Participate and provide input on EHS initiatives.

  • Assist and collaborate with AES Construction EHS groups.

  • Manage EHS best practices, coordinate with AES global EHS team to implement policies with operations sites, and share EHS lessons learned throughout the company.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Key Requirements:

  • 5-8 years related experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in EHS or related field required, advanced degree or equivalent experience preferred.

  • CSP, CIH, CHMM (or similar) certification preferred but not required.

  • Proven leadership skills.

  • Experience in solar and battery storage construction, electric industry, or power plants (preferred).

  • Passion for Environmental, Health, and Safety management.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and influence at all levels of an organization.

  • Ability to build effective relationships.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Strong computer and analytical skills

  • Ability to lead assigned tasks to closure while maintaining a high level of professionalism.

  • Able to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent organizational, project, planning & time management skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

  • Able to work considerately with other teams.

  • Able to establish relationships and trust with key stakeholders and contractors.

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $120,000 and $153,000/Annual; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
