About Transmission and Distribution:

Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.

Position Overview:

This position will be a Substation Operations Supervisor in the Grid Operations division within Southern California Edison’s (SCE) Transmission and Distribution (T&D) organization. The successful candidate reports to the Manager in charge of the Eastern Grid Management Center and is responsible for the supervision of Substation Operating personnel during normal and emergency conditions. Via effective utilization of personnel, the successful candidate will ensure that switching operations and station inspections are reliable and performed in a manner that is safe and accurate according to associated policies and operating standards.

Typical responsibilities would include:

  • Monitoring safety and ensuring appropriate training of all personnel.

  • Oversees the hiring of personnel and manages performance of subordinate staff, including career development, reward/recognition, discipline, and labor relations practices; builds and maintains positive relationships with peers and other departments, and encourages teamwork to accomplish daily activities and meet organizational goals.

  • Coach, mentor and job knowledge expert in the operation and inspection of Substation and Switching Center equipment, and will resolve elevated issues, respond to calls from other departments for support or information, and troubleshoot process breakdowns.

  • Utilizes tools and systems, including CMS, SAP, and Telogis to monitor performance and gather data.

  • May be called upon to serve on internal and/or external teams.

  • Perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2 years of supervisory and/or leadership experience

  • 2 years of experience in substation operations

  • Must possess a valid U.S. Driver’s License

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with construction and maintenance/material work practices, including outages and switching procedures.

  • Experience in the operation of the distribution system, including ensuring system reliability, trouble response, and service guarantees

  • Experience in emergency operations of the distribution system during storm events.

  • Experience applying union agreement and handling labor relations and diversity issues

  • Working knowledge of safe work practices, construction/maintenance methods, techniques, tools, and equipment; and broad computer skills.

  • Knowledge of the Corporate Storm Performance Improvement Plan (CSPIP)

  • Knowledge of the Distribution Operation Center and Outage Management System (OMS)

  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
