In this job, you'll support the regulatory requirements of Southern California Edison (SCE's) electrical distribution system by responding to our customers and communities, you will be behind every light switch, making contributions, big and small, to help Southern California thrive.

All Field Planning Technician Trainee training is paid. Your virtual/physical training will take place in our Chino, CA offices (location subject to change) and on-the-job training will be at your designated work location. Once you complete your training, you will be a bona fide Field Planning Technician.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with coordinating activities between customers, drafting technicians and engineers and other utilities, local government and construction crews

  • Aids in identifying and keeping a record of existing materials, taking photos, pole loading, meter spotting, and reviewing and approving meter panel locations to ensure compliance of electrical designs

  • Collaborates with planners, designers and field personnel to perform routine field visits

  • Follows established corrective action process for quality findings

  • Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders to inform, initiate, and ensure correction when discrepancies are found

  • Performs diagnostic testing, install program measures and perform minor repairs as appropriate by program

  • Manages supplied inventory materials and company issued equipment

  • Communicates all existing and potential customer service issues to immediate supervisor in real time

  • A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education, training or experience in a utility, construction or electrical trade.

  • Posses a valid Class C Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with electrical utility industry practices and regulatory standards.

  • Experience with overhead or underground electrical distribution systems.

  • Proficient with computer software applications, such as SPIDAcalc, SpidaMin, Design Manager, Circuit Mapping, SCEGeoView cGIS AutoCAD, SAP, SharePoint, Microsoft Word, and Excel.

  • Successful completion of Electrical Utility Planner Certification Program (from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona), AutoCAD, or similar programs.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills to connect with clients/customers.

  • Customer service experience building relationships, identifying needs, and resolving issues.

Additional Information

  • This position's work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.

  • This position requires testing and applicants who are identified to continue through the selection process will be invited to test via email. Candidates who have previously passed this assessment(s), in some cases, may not need to retest again for this position.
