Department Overview

The Electric Operations Technical Training Department is a dynamic group within PG&E Academy that focuses on strategically aligning itself with the lines of business toward a goal to increase employee safety, efficiency and competency by designing, developing, and delivering world class learning and on the job training solutions. We are seeking team members who can provide leadership to a team of Technical Training Instructors in a fast paced, safety focused environment. Electric Operations Training teams deliver client focused training at the PG&E Electric Operations Safety Academy, located in Livermore, CA, and at various locations throughout the service territory.

Position Summary

The Senior Manager will increase employee productivity and safety by supporting the design, and development of curriculum and delivering world class learning, and on the job support solutions. This role will lead and manage the training delivery teams to support the build and deliver the PG&E Academy training curriculum and On the Job Support materials for technical training specifically focused and created for Electric Operations employees. The successful candidate will work with the PG&E leaders to define the training priorities and execute PG&E’s learning strategy. This role will align with other internal stakeholders and industry experts to maintain visibility into the training and learning technology needs for the company and identify emerging industry trends that would be applicable to PG&E. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to lead a diverse team, recognize process gaps, and be open to change based on changing business conditions.

Job Responsibilities

Training Delivery:

  • Responsible for the overall quality of training delivery for PG&E Academy courses. Ensure that the training infrastructure is well maintained and that it is kept up to date to support new training programs as needed.

  • Responsible for leading a team of 27 technical training instructors and five Operations personnel to schedule and train Electric Operations personnel.

  • Standardize training operations to achieve a portfolio of proven delivery methods that meet the stated business needs.

  • Liaison for key business partners and processes (e.g. Curriculum Development Standards and Procedures, EO Field Training Team, JATC etc.) to ensure alignment for a quality learning experience.

  • Training delivery will be managed and monitored to ensure we are building workforce capability and can demonstrate that through an annual programmatic assessment and measurement of delivery results.

  • Qualify all instructors through the Instructor Excellence program, as well as certifying them to deliver each course in assigned areas (Technical, Safety, Cultural expectations etc.).

  • Work with each LOB to create training delivery plans and manage and monitor the execution of those plans,

  • Mange Training Delivery budget (expense and capital).

Curriculum Development:

  • Support the Curriculum Development team by providing SME’s to design and develop learning solutions that address and align to company guidance documents for Electric Operations technical training Design and develop industry leading process, tools, and delivery strategies for all curriculums that insure that all Academy training is consistent, is high quality, and can be developed as efficiently as possible.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • 10 of managerial experience designing and deploying learning solutions

  • 2 years of experience working with SAP learning systems

  • 3 years managing and/or leading education/learning teams

Desired:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred

  • Strong leadership and management skills

  • Anticipates, identifies and mitigates potential customer issues before they escalate into a significant problem

  • Knowledge of information technologies

  • Develops strategy needed to support the vision; translates strategies into plans that others can understand and implement

  • Applies knowledge of production or delivery methods to ensure successful rollout of learning products and services

  • Understands how to motivate, develop, and direct people as they work. Understands how to identify the best people for the job.

  • Manages communication activities to ensure all communication pieces clearly and accurately describe information in common, understandable terms and are consistent with company guidelines, policies, and procedures.
