Overview:

The Physical Security Emergency Management (PSEM) Summer Internship Program assists the PSEM team in the development, maintenance, and testing of SPP’s business continuity and emergency management plans, as well as application of physical security controls. This internship position will be assigned a project to improve or enhance SPP’s enterprise PSEM program. Projects could include, but not limited to, supporting exercise development, updating and/or delivering employee safety training, or assisting with physical security process improvements.

The internship program will have the opportunity to work with various departments across the company and external stakeholders to understand practical application of PSEM concepts learned during the course of their degree work.

This position is self-directed and independently performs the assignments with general guidance from the PSEM Team.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist in the maintenance of SPP’s corporate and department business continuity, emergency management and employee safety plans.

  • Assist in delivering PSEM related training to designated teams, team members, or general staff.

  • Assist PSEM plan owners to ensure testing and exercising is documented and enhancements to the plans are identified and recommended for implementation.

  • Research industry application of physical security controls and suggest enhancements to PSEM team.

  • Complete an assigned PSEM project within internship program timeframe.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • A college student in or entering their Senior year working toward a Bachelor of Science in emergency management, business continuity, homeland security, criminal justice, or related field

Experience Requirements:

  • No experience required

Other Requirements:

  • Expressed desire to work in the physical security, emergency management or business continuity industry

  • Strong interpersonal, team-building, and organizational skills along with strong written and verbal communications skills

  • Exhibit a professional attitude and appearance

Preferred :

  • 5 GPA or above

  • Completed the following independent study courses FEMA: IS-235, IS-700, IS-904, IS-905, IS-1300 and TEEX AWR-395

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and work at a computer for long periods of time, talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop. The employee may be required to lift and move up to 10 pounds.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a hybrid position. Days and hours of work week are Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Working extended hours may be required.

This position does not require travel
