COMPENSATION INFORMATION
The salary range(s) represents our good faith estimate for the role at this time. Sr. Market Design Analyst – Pay Range - $95,200 - $ 123,700
Market Design Analyst II - Pay Range: $ 76,000 - $ 96,900
Join our team as a Market Design Analyst!
The Market Design Analyst is responsible for analyzing and understanding organized market designs and the impact of design modifications. This position plays a critical role in facilitating market design changes through the stakeholder process and conducting market analysis to resolve market-related issues. Working closely with various SPP teams—including Markets, Operations, Legal, Regulatory, Settlements, and Congestion Hedging departments—you will ensure that market software and processes align with market design principles and comply with regulations.
The position will also support the Western Energy Imbalance Service (WEIS) Market, Markets+, and other Western Markets efforts. You will help facilitate discussions, analyze market data, and collaborate across departments and working groups to coordinate market design changes between the Markets+, WEIS, and SPP Integrated Marketplace. You will also play an important role in developing market metrics and creating reports.
Key Responsibilities:
Market Design Understanding: Apply knowledge of organized wholesale market rules to support key business functions and market design processes.
Stakeholder Coordination & Communication: Collaborate with market participants and member companies to coordinate and resolve market issues.
Market Design Facilitation: Facilitate market design changes through the SPP stakeholder process and ensure effective implementation.
Technical Expertise: Provide technical expertise to SPP committees and working groups on market design and related topics.
Working Group Support: Actively support and participate in working groups focused on market design and modifications.
FERC Filings Support: Assist in FERC filings by providing necessary data and supporting the drafting of testimony and filing letters.
Market Data Analysis: Conduct in-depth analysis of market data to identify weaknesses or inefficiencies, and develop ad-hoc analyses to support improvements.
Research & Benchmarking: Research and analyze market designs from other RTOs/ISOs and Western Markets to identify potential improvements or best practices.
Documentation & Reporting: Document analysis and studies in clear written reports, presenting findings and recommendations to both internal and external stakeholders.
Education & Development: Develop and review educational materials related to market design and support the training and development of junior-level market design staff.
To be successful as the Market Design Analyst, we're looking for:
Bachelor’s degree in economics, mathematics, or other related field
Sr Market Design Analyst - Five years of job-related experience
Market Design Analyst II - Three years of job-related experience – not eligible for remote work
Proficient at organizing and conducting technical and analytical studies
Knowledge of electric market concepts and ability to apply understanding in unique analysis
Ability to support diverse team members and manage complex analysis projects
Strong facilitation skills
Strong interpersonal and team-building skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Competent working skills with communication and data handling software such as Microsoft Office, Excel and Access
Demonstrate proficiency in business acumen and professional conduct
Demonstrate the ability to function with constantly changing and multiple priorities
Demonstrate strong organizational skills
Senior Level Requirements :
Ability to recognize and address strategic issues important to Market Design
Proficient at organizing and conducting complex technical and analytical studies
Skilled at analyzing complex issues and communicating results to diverse stakeholders
Preferred :
Experience in power operations or market design in the Western Interconnection.
Advanced degree in economics, math or other related field of study
Experience in utility operations, RTO operations or energy trading
Experience with data manipulation and analysis of large data sets
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
- This is a full-time position. Days and hours of the workweek are Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Working extended hours may be required.
Travel Requirement:
- This position requires moderate travel (approximately 10-15%)
