NiSource Technical Writing Specialist (hybrid) in Lexington, Kentucky

* This hybrid position is open across all NiSource service territories (Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. You're required to be onsite on Tuesday's and Wednesday's.) *

Job Summary

The Technical Writing Specialist identifies, creates, and manages process documentation that support the organization's focus on operational excellence. This includes working with the SMS Strategy Department, Element Owners, and stakeholders across the organization to identify documentation needs, shepherd document creation and review, and improve document governance across the organization. The Technical Writing Specialist supports the maintenance and facilitation of SMS document governance process including reviewing / updating on an annual basis and maintaining catalog of SMS document owners for Organization. The Technical Writing Specialist will also be responsible for driving standardization and consistency of SMS processes and documentation where appropriate. The Technical Writing Specialist will provide critical support to the Manager, SMS Process in the identification, onboarding, and ongoing support of document owners. Working to establish the framework, deliverables for process improvements and actively work to identify and remove roadblocks for owners.

Essential Functions

  • Identifies, tracks, and prioritizes documentation that supports the SMS and operational excellence. This includes managing and improving the risk model used to prioritize documentation.

  • Drives the creation and review of new and existing documentation to ensure ongoing organizational conformance to API RP 1173. This includes managing the creation and review process with applicable stakeholders, authorship, and editing, creating and updating process maps, and tracking project status.

  • Maintains, edits, and documents changes annually to the NiSource SMS Policy, SMS Standard, Risk Lifecycle, and any new documents that fall within the responsibility of the central organization in accordance with NiSource SMS Maturity and API RP 1173.

  • Manages the Document Management System to ensure documents are maintained. Including ongoing functionality, identification, and completion of opportunities to improve the system and increasing scope of use across the organization.

  • Aggregates and prepares updates, reports, and presentations for leadership, as needed.

  • Identifies continuous improvement opportunities in how the organization documents processes and procedures and governs documentation.

  • Supports annual third-party assessment efforts to maintain SMS Certification and any additional certification efforts identified/prioritized by the organization.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications For Position

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience

  • Technical and procedural writing and process flow/mapping skills and experience

  • Ability to facilitate meetings / tables and achieve group consensus

  • Ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders both internally and externally

  • Ability to drive and monitor continuous improvement and associated change management

  • Proactive in collaborating and leveraging interpersonal skills

  • Strong communication skills both written and oral

  • Experience with project planning and execution

  • Support SMS process consistency across the organization

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Access, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Ability to learn new systems and become proficient with them (e.g., Management of Change Tool, Tableau, etc.)

  • Analytical / critical thinking with proven business acumen

  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills

  • Ability to work independently with strong work ethic and attention to detail

  • Excellent planning, organization, and verbal/written communication skills

  • Effective project management skills and ability to drive execution

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and team participation at various states concurrently ensuring timely delivery and desired outcomes

Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Technical writing training and certificate

  • Knowledge of NiSource gas utility and field operations

  • Knowledge and understanding of American Petroleum Institute (API) Recommended Practice (RP) 1173

  • Continuous Improvement experience

  • Experience with NiSource business processes and tools / technologies

  • Experience developing, implementing, and/or executing management of change programs, change management or continuous learning program

Salary Range:

$77,400.00 - $116,200.00
