Position Purpose This position works independently utilizing engineering tools, planning techniques, procedures, policies and standards to assess the need for new or expanded electric system capacity, ensures proper system configuration, protection and reliability, develops system load forecasts, performs contingency studies, and provides engineering and technical support to electric operations centers, System Restoration and Dispatch, Substation Construction and Maintenance, and others.

Required Education & Experience Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited school.

Must have good planning and organizing skills with above average oral and written communication, conceptual, interpersonal and team building skills. Achievement oriented with the ability to work independently to strike appropriate balance between risk and reward when making business decisions and recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications Ability to analyze and solve engineering problems from a business perspective.

Job Description Performs studies that determine the best way to implement major capital investments on the LGE/KU distribution system.

Provides support to maintain system models and all other data bases needed in Distribution System Planning.

Candidate will provide support to Operations Centers, System Restoration and Dispatch, Substation Construction and Maintenance, and others as requested. Support includes general engineering duties, the application of codes, policies and standards, recommendations for new service requirements, equipment sizing, evaluation of circuit protective coordination, power factor, voltage regulation, system reliability, phase balancing, optimal system configuration, and loading analysis.

Candidate assists in the development of Distribution Operations capital plan by coordinating the development of budget proposals for system enhancement projects.

Acts as project proponent for capacity enhancement projects from inception through final approval.

Provides support to Economic Development initiatives for the attraction of new load and the retention and customer support for increasing loads to the LGE/KU system.

Performs arc flash analysis and insures compliance for all distribution circuits he is assigned.

Performs protection and coordination studies for distribution circuits assigned.

Ensures safety, engineering excellence, reliability, efficiency, and cost effectiveness, which are fundamental drivers in the completion of all assignments.

Performs other duties as directed by Group Leader.

Work Conditions Office environment with occasional field visits.

Physical Effort Primarily desk work with some standing and walking.
