The Security Internship Program is geared toward current college students who have a passion for cyber and physical security and an interest in Consumers Energy and the energy industry. The Security Internship Program at Consumers Energy is a key component of realizing the Security organization’s vision of “A World Class Security Program Built at the Best Place to Work in Michigan”.
Current college students of all levels will work as part of a larger team to provide services and support for cyber security, physical security, compliance and program management activities. Cyber security roles are technical in nature and involve either deploying new security technologies or using our existing tools and processes to detect and respond to security incidents. Physical security roles work with our field investigators in a variety of capacities responding to incidents, conducting investigations and completing small projects. Compliance roles assist our team with managing various regulatory requirements such as NERC/CIP, PCI and TSA regulations. This work includes monitoring of controls, audits, assessments and small projects. Our program management function has a variety of needs including project management, process mapping/creation, security awareness, risk and privacy. The work will be challenging, equivalent to an entry level role, but in a collaborative team environment where you can learn from industry leaders.
In addition to working alongside full time employees carrying out the Security strategy for Consumers Energy, Security Interns will have the option to participate in a number of additional events within the program, including intern networking events, company tours and the consistently top-ranked event, the Intern Challenge.

Actively enrolled and pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Criminal Justice or other related field. A minimum GPA of 2.7 or higher is required.
MUST be a current student to be eligible for an Intern role.

Investigations This position will be located in Jackson and the position may require driving.
The location of the internship may vary depending upon assignment and travel within the State of Michigan may be required. However, during this time of uncertainty, we are committed to ensuring the safety and health of our communities and co-workers. This role could be remote until our leadership team has determined it’s safe to resume work in the office.
Works closely with department managers and teammates on one of the core Security teams providing security services to the Company and its stakeholders; responsible for completing operational tasks according to standard security procedures; completes small projects or tasks in support of larger Security efforts; assists in the identification of security incidents and their resolution; looks for process improvement opportunities and provides feedback to leadership; creates accurate documentation in support of ongoing operational excellence; conducts audits or assessments; develops training materials and handouts; participates in Security daily, weekly and monthly operating reviews; uses available tools to analyze data and solve problems; actively participates in meetings; ability to work on issues requiring confidentiality.
Hours and Travel Meet travel requirements of the position. Work a flexible schedule, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime.
