About Transmission and Distribution
Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.
The Field Supervisor (FS) is a frontline supervisor to a highly specialized workforce of Troublemen and Repairmen within the Grid Operations Organization who perform routine and emergency operations of constructing, maintaining and restoring Southern California Edison’s electrical distribution and streetlight system. The FS will be held accountable for safety and deliver tangible results related to cost efficiency and productivity on the Grid ops Balanced Scorecard and will supervise between eight to fourteen IBEW employees. In addition, are responsible to ensure the safety and development of their employees, while providing direction and monitoring of resources to maximize crew safety, productivity, cost efficiency, and the scheduling of multiple projects while meeting customer/compliance dates.
Ensure that all work is executed and completed in an efficient manner by conducting regular crew visits, field observations, rewarding good work practices, correcting unsafe conditions and work practices, and providing field supervisory support in cases of emergency situations.
Optimize the cost efficiency of the crews through the managing of overtime and crew size, ensuring accurate tail-boarding, reviewing daily timesheets, resolving employee disputes, hiring personnel, and providing coaching/feedback regarding performance.
Review/approve switching programs.
Responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable governmental/regulatory laws and requirements.
Promote a safety culture by conducting and overseeing all safety investigations, WICC reviews, close calls, safety team participation, and safety stand-downs.
Coordinate and interact with their district peers (DCM Field Supervisors, Operations Supervisors), as well as Project General Superintendents.
Interact with bargaining unit employees, union leadership, Craft Driven Safety Program (CDSP), Union Safety Representative (USR), Union Safety Board (USB), and Human Resources Labor.
Interface with city representatives and external stakeholders.
Participate in cross-functional teams that support projects and initiatives.
Spend a majority of their time in the field directing operations activities.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Five or more years of experience in the electrical distribution field in either construction, planning, inspection and/or project management.
Supervisory or team leadership experience.
Possess a valid Driver’s license.
Bachelor degree in engineering, business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Experience as a Troubleman, Field General Supervisor, or System Operator.
Experience with field computer applications including EMS, OMS, DCMS, and CMS.
Handled labor relations, diversity issues, and application of union agreement.
Developed plans for distribution switching.
Prioritized work, structuring crews, execution of work, and customer satisfaction.
Evaluated performance, managed development, and coached & hired of personnel.
Safety/environmental rules and regulations, the IBEW contract, and developed and administered function and capital budgets at the crew level.
Worked on several projects concurrently in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision.
Researched technical/operating data and performed sophisticated analyses.
Strong leadership, problem-solving, interpersonal and communication skills for building team relationships, resolving conflicts, and interacting with internal and external organizations.
Thorough knowledge of Distribution field equipment and operation policies, practices, procedures, and a broad knowledge of power system design and operation.
Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.
50% - 60% of traveling throughout the assigned area of responsibility.
Flexible to work overtime hours, on-call duty, and available for all hands on deck storm watch/call.
