Associate Telecommunications Engineer / Telecommunications Engineer
Hiring Wage Range: $65,291 - $126,000 per hour
Compensation is determined by a combination of factors, including but not limited to education, work experience, and certifications. The actual offer may vary, reflecting the candidate's unique blend of experience, educational background, and skill level
Dairyland Power Cooperative is seeking a dynamic and talented individual to join our Telecommunications Department as either an Associate Telecommunications Engineer or Telecommunications Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for researching, designing, implementing, administering, and finding design solutions for telecommunications systems for Dairyland, member cooperatives, and other interconnected entities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Collaborate in a team environment to research, design, and install telecommunications systems for Dairyland, member cooperatives, municipals, and other entities.
Design and coordinate the installation of telecommunications systems including microwave networks, mobile radio systems, load management systems, phone and voice mail systems, voice logging systems, field security systems, and facility upgrades.
Research and design transport/network upgrades and replacements for legacy equipment.
Manage and administer the Mobile Radio System and the Dairyland SCADA system.
Design and coordinate substation SCADA/EMS equipment upgrades and installations.
Work with Electrical Engineering to design and coordinate power line carrier systems and other electronic controls associated with protective relaying equipment.
Collaborate with Telecommunications Technicians to implement new equipment and resolve installation and maintenance issues.
Evaluate vendor bids and oversee the implementation of vendor work.
Order and verify equipment for communications and SCADA systems in the field.
Administer, implement, and monitor Dairyland’s telecommunications networks and Network Management System.
Track project work using project management systems and ensure adherence to budgets and timelines.
Stay current with new technology and evaluate its relevance to Dairyland’s needs.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience:
For Associate Telecommunications Engineer:
Associate Degree with courses in electronics, computers, or telecommunications.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in utility telecommunications and SCADA, with extensive experience in substation communications system design.
For Telecommunications Engineer:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Technology with specialization in Telecommunications or Control Systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills:
Knowledge of FCC and FAA rules and regulations.
Ability to read and comprehend complex written documents, including schematics.
Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
Computer literacy with experience in engineering software and computer-aided drafting.
Project management skills, including budgeting and timelines.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Driver’s License.
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) license preferred.

Environmental Demands: Works primarily indoors (office, substation and communication facilities). Must be able to access remote areas and in uneven terrain while carrying equipment. May work around electrical hazards, with some radio frequency radiation exposure.
