Performs less difficult tasks of civil engineering work related to water resources and power facilities. The incumbent is also responsible for the performance of progressively more challenging duties in this work area. The work more specifically includes :
Assists in designing, modifying, and constructing and modifying a variety of structures such as dams, locks, river terminals, nuclear, hydro, and fossil power plants and systems.
Assists in improving operational performance of facilities and systems by assessing conditions and developing solutions for engineering problems.
Assists in refining the hydraulic and physical relationships of reservoirs or other civil systems and could include the application of mathematical models of the systems
Assists in applying and verifying computational models of fluid dynamics, hydraulic, and hydrologic and processes for the solution of engineering problems.
Performs calculations involved with drainage studies which includes calibrating watershed models.
Assignments are well-defined and given either verbally and/or in writing by a more senior engineer and/or supervisor, who outlines objectives to be achieved and sets priorities and deadlines. Work is reviewed in progress and at completion. Frequency and intensity of reviews will be reduced over time, as incumbent develops expertise.

Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements/Other Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or comparable field of engineering discipline from an accredited college or university. A Master’s degree is desirable.
An EIT certificate is desirable.
