Position Summary

The Support Team Leader is a member of the Plant Senior Management team with specific responsibilities for the immediate and long term activities focussing on maximizing plant availability, performance and efficiency. All activities will be managed in a safe, environmentally friendly and economic manner. The position supports the Plant Manager with accurate and concise technical advice pertaining to the Purchase Power Agreement administration, Environmental requirements, Finance, Engineering and other assigned activities. Responsible for the implementation of sound budgetary control and recommends to the Plant Manager the annual Support Team budget.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understands and adheres to all Local, Corporate Health, Safety and Environmental Policies.

  • Implements, monitors and maintains industry best practice programs for the assigned area.

  • Manages the plant environmental requirements

  • Manages plant engineering including using remote and contract support. (Controls, mechanical, performance)

  • Manages plant finance (A/P, invoicing. FP&A interface, OPEX, CAPEX)

  • Completes technical reviews of plant equipment and systems ensuring suitability, optimization of performance and maximizing of efficiency.

  • Provides technical support for optimization of plant performance

  • Ensures SAP is fully utilized by all team members focussing on accurate submission into the plant historian as found and post maintenance conditions.

  • Completes employee appraisals, assessing and satisfying training needs to ensure skill levels are increased and maintained.

  • Custodian of the plant Support group budget, maximizing cost savings and efficiency of plant performance.

  • Provides support to the Plant Manager and Senior management team with respect to technical support and record keeping.


  • Four-year degree in Engineering or other related field preferred.

  • With equivalent of ten (10) years relevant managerial experience is required

  • At least five (5) years solid experience in industrial setting.

  • Strong and solid power generation experience, preferably in power generation. Coal experience preferred.

  • Experts in reading and writing diagrams and instructions in the power plant.

  • Capable of understanding blueprints, P&ID and as built drawings.

  • Capable of working with the Plant’s Contractors and Consultants.

  • Must have strong technical background and plant performance experience.

  • Must have good coordination skills and be adapted to cross culture working environment.

  • Knowledge in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) method.

  • Advance personal computer knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power-Point.

  • Knowledge in SAP is an advantage.

  • Require the ability to supervise a team of people and requires the ability to lead, motivate and delegate work.

  • Good interpersonal, communication and motivational skills with a flexible, enthusiastic and committed attitude.

  • Fluent to comprehend, speak, read and write English.

  • Should have good analytical skill.

  • Logical and well organized with the ability to prioritize.
