PAY RANGE: $99,200 - $132,300 (Min-Mid)

Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Other hours as required)

Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The position is responsible for leading and coordinating all the work activities of the outside contractors performing work on EVERGY’s high voltage transmission system; including 69 kV, 161 kV, 230 kV and 345 kV systems, ensuring that public safety, system reliability and availability are maintained as a priority. The position provides and coordinates support and resources from EVERGY necessary for contractors to accomplish their work. This position ensures that the field inspections of the system are conducted and responses to problems are identified and effectively controlled. The position is also responsible for directing emergency response to storms, outages etc. and scheduling and being responsible for clearances. The position is the primary landowner contact for over 2500 miles of right of way and makes certain that all customer and right of way landowner issues and concerns are effectively handled. This position is responsible for the field QAQC of the contracted work and supports the department’s projected Capital and O&M spend.

Duties and Responsibilities:

⦁ Ensures that the transmission system contractor's performance meets the safety, quality, and reliability requirements established by the company. Provides effective coordination of contractor work crews and required equipment for performing construction and maintenance activities throughout the entire EVERGY high voltage transmission system by directing work through the contractor general foreman to meet the scope and schedule requirements of the project. Coordinates the work site activities of the contractor crews, with landowners, developers, governmental agencies, other contractors, public safety agencies, and EVERGY crews.

⦁ Responsible for securing, in a time effective manner, all EVERGY supplied construction and maintenance material necessary for the contractors to perform their work by working closely with other department personnel, Material Control, Transportation, Engineering, Environmental, Purchasing, and other unspecified departments.

⦁ Serves as key contact person for implementing any required field activities in response to system emergencies on a twenty-four hour, seven-day week requirement.

⦁ Responsible for all Right of Way activities which include fence and gate construction and land restoration activities caused by construction and maintenance activities. Assures public safety when Right of Way encroachments are found which have not been approved by engineering.

⦁ Develops and provides training to staff and specific contractor personnel who perform various operation and maintenance functions on the underground transmission system. Underground system functions include inspections, pumping plants, alarm response, and foreign contractor monitoring during encroachment activities.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

⦁ High school diploma or GED is required.

⦁ Bachelor's degree in electrical or civil engineering preferred.

⦁ Position requires 5 or more years’ experience in Substation, Transmission or Distribution systems, electric utility construction, maintenance, and/or operations experience.

⦁ Supervisory or leadership experience is required.

⦁ Project Management skills are highly desired for this position.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:

⦁ Advanced ability to influence safety awareness and immediately address safety related issues.

⦁ Advanced leadership, interpersonal, communication (oral and written), human relations, communication, and project management skills are necessary for this position.

⦁ Strong ability to execute goals and objectives.

⦁ Solid verbal/written communications.

⦁ Strong working knowledge of Transmission line construction and maintenance work, processes, procedures, and safety practices

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: None

Working Conditions: Most work is performed in the with field with office work as necessary to perform the job. Travel to other locations within the company is required. Position requires work beyond normal working hours depending on workload, project deadlines, and service restoration efforts. Must have a satisfactory work record including good attendance.
