JOB TITLE: Transmission Operations Planning Engineer

LOCATION: Kansas City, MO

PAY RANGE:

Engineer I: $64,100 - $80,100 - $96,100

Engineer II: $78,200 - $97,800 - $117,400

Staff Engineer: $87,400 - $109,300 - $131,200

Sr Engineer: $88,500 - $118,000 - $147,500

Lead Engineer: $104,200 - $138,900 - $173,600

Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • With minimal supervision, this position is responsible for all aspects of transmission operations planning functions.

  • Regular duties include:

  • using state estimator and power systems software to model powerflow data and perform studies,

  • processing and coordinating transmission outage requests,

  • performing transmission outage coordination studies,

  • collaborating with multiple stakeholders on the sequencing and timing of capital and maintenance projects,

  • working with Evergy Transmission System Operators and the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) on real-time issues,

  • providing 24x7x365 rotating on-call support to the Evergy Transmission Control Centers (TCCs), and activities necessary to support compliance with applicable Evergy, SPP, and NERC requirements and standards.

  • The candidate will also be required to follow all existing safety rules and procedures.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. Experience in power systems engineering or equivalent planning and operations experience is preferred.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • The ideal candidate will have proficient knowledge of transmission planning and power systems.

  • Must be proficient in the use of spreadsheets and word processing.

  • Prefer EMS state estimator and power system simulation software (OSI Monarch and PSS/E is preferred) experience.

  • Must be capable of learning to use transmission operations planning software applications.

  • Successful candidate must be able to evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, using good judgment in making adaptations and modifications.

  • Prefer a working knowledge of the technical environment and all governing regulations, including NERC and SPP Criteria.

  • Requires the ability to work on a team responsible for projects from the planning through completion phases.

  • Must have demonstrated good organizational skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with others.

  • Must have excellent teamwork and people skills.

  • Must have initiative and be a self-starter.

Licenses, Certificates, Bonding and/or Testing:

Must have a valid driver’s license. EITs or PEs are preferred, but not required.

Working Conditions:

Normal working office environment with occasional field visits to support coordination activities. The primary work location is Evergy’s Topeka TCC. The candidate must have satisfactory work record including good attendance.
