Position Specific Description Be part of a Team of professional and experienced engineers who provide technical support to NextEra Energy's diverse (+) 46,000 MW generating fleet.
The individual in the roles makes decisions and recommendations having significant impact on technical aspects of Medium Voltage/Low Voltage switchgear, Motor Control Centers and Station Battery Systems for the Power Generation Division. Negotiates critical and controversial technical issues with high level management and officers of their organizations and companies. Plans, organizes, and guides extensive system programs and activities of outstanding novelty and/or importance that are critical to overall Company objectives. Recognized as a switchgear Subject Matter Expert.
Primary duties will include:
- Provide assistance to plant sites with technical issues related to medium voltage and low voltage switchgear, motor control centers, station battery equipment and variable frequency drives
- Provide on and off site support for applicable equipment scheduled maintenance and troubleshooting, including vendor surveillance
- Arc Flash Analysis of power plant equipment
- Formulate and make recommendations to maximize reliability of power plant switchgear systems
- Perform detailed equipment failure root cause analysis, troubleshooting and quality control. Develop new switchgear/motor control center system purchase specifications. Prepare applicable system purchase/repair test data packages; develop applicable system repair and maintenance procedures.
- Perform review of and provide recommendations for trip coordination of power plant protective equipment
In addition to the responsibilities below this indivual will also need to be a dedicated, professional to support maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and assure long term reliability of NextEra Energy’s electrical equipment. The ideal candidate will need to have demonstrated ability to lead projects and be self-managed most of the time. Travel is required and averages about 30% of total work schedule. Outage season could require overnight travel for multi-week on site activities.
Work Schedule: M-F 8 am - 5 pm.
Due to the 24 hour, 7 day per week nature of power generation, it is part of the job requirements to provide night, weekend, and holiday support via telephone or call-out, as may be required.
