Position Specific Description

The Senior GIS Analyst will be responsible for supporting Transmission Projects from early stage development through construction. The Senior GIS Analyst will support development by collecting and analyzing data obtained from a variety of private and public databases, as well as authoring original content. In addition to exceptional GIS skills, the successful candidate will be business-minded, and have the aptitude to understand complex and competitive business scenarios quickly. The Sr. GIS Analyst will utilize ArcGIS Pro software but may be asked to learn other titles quickly. Additional responsibilities of the role are as follows:

  • Compiles geographic data from a variety of public and private GIS and non-GIS sources. Gathers, analyzes and integrates spatial data and business data, and determines how best the information can be displayed using GIS. The Sr. GIS Analyst will act as the primary “hub” for all project information, ensuring accuracy, while making available to all on the project.

  • Designs and creates special map and digital products as assigned using predefined procedures, knowledge of GIS data and required GIS skills.

  • Coordinates successful completion of projects including quality deliverables

  • Position will require initiative, problem-solving skills, and will be able to work efficiently and effectively alone or with a team.

  • Identifies and delivers innovative solutions to meet dynamic business needs for the company

  • Must have a strong understanding of intermediate to advanced GIS skills and tools; Preference for those who have experience with 3D-Analyst, Spatial Analyst, and App creation.

  • Preferred candidate will also be able to follow one-line schematics/diagrams of transmission or distribution systems and/or have experience with Renewable Energy projects.

The following Education & Skills are highly preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a preferred major in geography, information systems, information technology, land planning, environmental sciences, or related field.

  • At least 4 years with ESRI ArcGIS systems.

  • Preference will be given to those candidates that have previous Transmission, Utility, or Energy work experience.

  • Must be able to troubleshoot problems and find solutions independently. Critical thinking and creative ingenuity are highly desirable.

  • High proficiency in communication, written, oral and cartographic skills – the ability to convey GIS spatial information to non-GIS users

  • Role will have up to 25% travel.

Job Overview

Employees in this role provide Geographic Information System (GIS) data analysis, data mining, technical support and database maintenance to meet FCG internal and external customers’ requirements.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serves as Subject Matter Expert on GIS projects and solution definition workshops

  • Performs data mining activities to meet customer requirements/specifications

  • Provides specialized queries and reports to meet customer requirements/specifications

  • Performs application testing and documentation of defects

  • Interfaces with Information Services (IS) GIS Support group; represents users' issues

  • Interfaces with users; documents requested/needed changes

  • Performs weekly analysis on mission critical GIS data to audit and sustain data integrity

  • Identifies training requirements; creates and maintains training and procedural documentation

  • Identifies new GIS technologies, process and applications to improve departmental functions

  • Maintains compatible units (ie list of gas facilities placed in GIS)

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
