Position Specific Description
NextEra Energy is currently seeking a Wind Fleet Electrical Engineer who can apply diversified knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices to a broad variety of assignments and fields related to wind power generation. This candidate will need to make decisions independently regarding engineering complexities and methods. This position requires the use of advanced techniques and modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices in this individual’s field. Supervision and guidance related largely to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters.
Areas of responsibility will mainly focus on wind turbine power electronics and electrical systems support and analysis, including but not limited to:
Troubleshooting/analysis of various current and obsolete turbine electronics and power converter hardware and software (GE, Xantrex, Converteam/GEPC, ABB, Siemens)
Electrical pitch control technology
Wind turbine generators and motors
Circuit breakers, contactors and high current carrying cables
Supporting other wind component teams and business units in operational and cost improvement initiatives.
Problem Solving and Project Management skills a must.
The Wind Fleet Electrical Engineer is a part of a broader collaborative team that supports the entire wind turbine power electronics and electrical systems with additional responsibilities that include
Arc Flash Studies utilizing SKM, ETAP
Electrical Safety Initiatives and Investigations
NERC Standard Validation, including MOD-026/027, MOD-032, PRC-004, PRC-019 and PRC-025
A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering is a requirement, and registration as a licensed Professional Engineer is a Plus.
Employees in this role have responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating assignments. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope, selection of areas for investigation, and development of novel concepts.
