Position Specific Description

This position will work in the new PGA building with the recently formed Fossil Center of Work Excellence Team as well as the Central Control Room operating the fleet of FPL’s 22+ GW of installed combined cycle/simple cycle plants. The individual in this role will spend the first 6 months primarily working with the NEE IT Development team working on the Horizon platform. After Jan. 1, 2022 the individual in this role will spend 50% of their time developing/enhancing this newly created software platform and the other 50% of their time supporting the FCWE day to day operations with bug fixes, algorithm enhancements and general fleet support. Additional roles/qualifications for this position include the following:

  • Acts as liaison between FCWE and AMAT team

  • Acts as liaison between FCWE and Horizon Development Team/IT

  • Reviews, tests an validates all feedback from end users in FPL Fleet and captures issues/enhancements in JIRA tickets

  • Strong understanding of Maximo

  • Strong Python skills

  • Familiarity with JIRA/Confluence

  • Familiarity with Horizon platform is major benefit

  • Understanding of Work Management Process for FPL Fossil plants is considered a plus

Job Overview

Employees in this position define, develop, test, analyze, and maintain software to help the business unit improve reliability, and drive efficiencies. This position works individually, and as part of a team using best practices in software development methodologies. Employees collaborate with other areas to understand requirements and drive continuous improvement of Smart Grid software applications.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supports daily system operations within a specify discipline on a continual basis

  • Writes, translates, and codes software programs and applications consistently to specifications and development standards per specific discipline

  • Writes programming scripts to enhance functionality and/or performance of company applications as necessary

  • Assists in defining software development project plans, including scopes, schedules, and implementation

  • Liaises with network administrators, systems analysts, database administrators, external vendors, and software engineers to assist in resolving problems with software products or company software systems

  • Develops an understanding of relevant system administration tasks including backup/recovery of systems and disaster recovery

  • Designs, runs and monitors software performance tests on new and existing programs for the purposes of correcting errors, isolating areas for improvement, and general debugging

  • Conducts research on emerging application development software products, languages, and standards in support of procurement, development and maintenance efforts

  • Meets attendance and storm duty requirements and has the ability to work extended hours

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High School Grad / GED

  • Bachelor’s or Equivalent Experience

  • Experience: 5+ years

  • Master’s Degree

  • Six Sigma Master Black Belt

  • Six Sigma Black Belt

  • Six Sigma Green Belt

  • Six Sigma Yellow Belt
