Position Specific Description

This position is in the Environmental Licensing & Permitting Section of the Corporate Environmental Services Department supporting new development opportunities for NextEra Energy Transmission and other NextEra Energy affiliates throughout the US.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Specialist with a passion for environmental due diligence and permitting of electric transmission projects. The applicant must have relevant environmental siting, routing, and permitting experience, with the ability to lead, with some direction, environmental functions for new corporate transmission development opportunities and acquisitions. The position provides the opportunity to use your environmental knowledge and skills to support competitive proposals, acquire permits, complete risk assessments, conduct due diligence, and advise multidisciplinary teams on environmental risk and permitting strategies.

Primary responsibilities include working closely with development teams, environmental peers, and external consultants to help prepare competitive proposals, and for awarded projects, to obtain all required federal, state, and local environmental licenses, permits, and approvals for construction.

The candidate must demonstrate proficient knowledge of and experience with aquatic, biological, and cultural surveys and studies, federal, state, and local permitting, risk assessments, due diligence, and agency coordination, such as federal and state fish, wildlife, and game departments, state historic preservation officers, public utility regulating agencies, USDA, and USACE.

The job location is Juno Beach, Florida. However, remote, regionally appropriate home-based locations or other NextEra office locations may be negotiated. Routine travel (up to 50%) may be required.

Ideal candidate will have:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred)

• 4+ years of directly relevant experience

• Advanced knowledge of environmental permitting and regulations

• Advanced oral and written communication skills as well as analysis, problem solving, compliance, leadership, and process efficiency skills

Job Overview

Employees in this job are responsible for providing expert environmental support for new and existing facilities including due diligence, permitting, regulatory compliance, regulatory interpretation and development, and interface with Federal, State, and Regional agencies.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Supports the company's compliance with environmental requirements

• Performs comprehensive environmental due diligence reviews

• Assists with facility compliance audits

• Conducts environmental licensing and permitting activities

• Supports environmental aspects of company operations, such as, compliance, reporting, monitoring, remediation, and environmental permitting functions

• Monitors and analyzes environmental policies and regulations that affect the company and its customers

• Provides the necessary support to staff to resolve environmental matters

• Performs other job-related duties as assigned
