Position Specific Description

Florida Power & Light Company is seeking a Principal Accountant at the Juno Beach location. In this role, you will report to the Regulated Corporate Accounting Senior Manager and focus mainly on Corporate Accounting related activities. In this role, you will also encounter opportunities to review others’ work product, support and coach other team members, and add value through leading and completing process improvement projects.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Actively manages the monthly financial close process for the regulated entities (primarily Florida Power & Light, Gulf Power, and Florida City Gas) to ensure financial results are accurate, timely and in accordance with GAAP

  • Prepares and/or reviews monthly balance sheet and income statement variance reports related to the Company’s regulated operations, including coordination with those providing explanations

  • Reviews assigned account reconciliations

  • Manages the Environmental Liability Reserve SOX process

  • Supports monthly, quarterly & annual reporting and filing requirements (Securities & Exchange Commission, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Florida Public Service Commission), including facilitating internal and external audit requests as they arise

  • Partners with IT to incorporate updates to the regulated entity reporting deliverables as the business changes

  • Masters various systems to extract data needed for value-added analytics and/or problem resolution

  • Follows through on accounting matters as they arise, including researching, analyzing and reporting on issues that affect the company, making recommendations for solutions, and implementing determined courses of action

  • Directs, mentors and coaches other team members in their development

  • Leads special projects, including process improvement initiatives, to drive improved efficiency in work processes (includes ability to ask

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field, plus 6+ years accounting experience required.

  • Prior supervisory experience preferred

  • CPA, CMA, MBA or Master's in Accounting is strongly preferred

• Experience: 7+ years
