Position Specific Description
The Wind Fleet Electrical Team is seeking an Electrical Engineering candidate to support the operation and maintenance of the NextEra Energy Resources 12,000+ wind turbine fleet. The Wind Fleet Team is within the Power Generation Division of the NextEra organization. The desirable candidate should have familiarity in one or more areas of the team’s scope. All engineering levels encouraged to apply.
The Electrical Wind Fleet scope includes:
Generators; Squirrel Cage, Doubly Fed Inductor (DFIG), Permanent Magnet,
Power Conversion; Asynchronous and Synchronous, Wind Turbine Type 1 (fixed speed), Type 2 (variable speed, variable slip), Type 3 DFIG, Type 4 (full converter), Power Factor Control, Voltage Control, Var Control, ABB, Xantrex, GE, DAC, Ingeteam, Delta, etc
Electrical Pitch Systems; ac and dc motors and brakes, power converter, batteries, ultracapacitors, encoders
Yaw Systems; AC and DC motors and contactors
Power Distribution equipment; Breakers, relays, contactors, fuses, cables, transformers. AC:120V-34.5kV, DC: 24V-1.5kV
Power Electronics; controls boards and cards
NERC reliability standards applying to generator owner and power flow modeling
ArcFlash and Electrical Safety; SKM, ETAP
The goal of the Electrical Wind Fleet team is to increase uptime of the fleet and decrease operation and maintenance costs.
Position Responsibilities include:
Root Cause Analysis for fleet level issues
Repair Processes: Repair specifications, repair vendor qualifications, partnering with vendors on new procedures and opportunities
Parts Obsolescence and/or equivalence
Drive quality, reliability, availability, and safety improvement initiatives using a data driven mindset. Solutions include component and data-analytic (AI).
Support of major component failure verification and development of models and predictions for business budgeting
Support operations teams on difficult turbine specific troubleshoots
Mentor wind fleet site teams on site level quality improvement initiatives
Ensure compliance to NERC reliability standards
Provide Subject Matter Expertise outside Power Generation (PGD) to various NextEra organizations such as Power Delivery, Engineering & Construction, Development, etc.
Requirements:
Willing and able to climb wind turbines
Electrical Engineering Degree or 8+ years of equivalent experiences
Experience writing repair, operations, and/or maintenance procedures and specifications
Ability to work individually and collaboratively within teams
Willing to work in an office environment
Ability and interest to learn and self-teach new skills and technologies
Ability to communicate and present to leadership
Basic financial and business acumen. Ability to translate engineering solutions into financial benefits to business.
Balance and prioritize multiple projects and deliverables
Estimated minimum travel 20% to wind sites and vendor shops
