Position Specific Description

Smile, you found us! Come support the NextEra Energy, Inc. (NEE) Compliance and Responsibility Organization’s (CRO) Compliance Director in managing NEE’s Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Electronic Quarterly Reporting ( EQR). CRO’s objective is to file compliant EQRs by working directly with NEE Federal Regulatory Affairs (FRA) attorneys and various NEE operational business units to sustain compliance with FERC’s EQR rules and regulations.

A successful candidate in this position will have opportunities for exposure with management across various business units throughout the company. This is a fast paced and innovative company where logical thinking, strong, effective communication, organizational skills, and a passion for continuous improvement are keys to success. We are looking for a seasoned professional with public utility and merchant energy industry experience coupled with FERC EQR regulatory compliance and system development experience. Compliance Activities and Primary Job Functions:

FERC EQR Compliance Program:

  • Maintain the FERC EQR Compliance Plan; Systems Documentation Guides , Definition Guides, and various procedural documents

    Business Unit Communications:

  • Interface with over ten business units that provide information for the CRO EQR processes, including understanding various power and power related sales contracts, ISO market structures, utility markets and accounting settlement processes and systems

  • Assist business units in their development of processes and monitoring controls as needed for new business initiatives related to EQRs

    EQR filings:

  • Oversee the preparation of contract and transaction information for over 200 legal entities, including following extensive checklists and FERC guidance

  • Interpret FERC guidance to new businesses or activities, in conjunction with FRA as applicable

    Attend FERC and Industry Forums/Conferences

  • Participate in FERC EQR Conferences

  • Engage with EEI in EQR related matters

The leader in this role administers programs, policies and controls for the company's Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Electric Quarterly Reporting (EQR) requirements to ensure company compliance.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintains and updates the company EQR policies and procedures

  • Distributes EQR definitions

  • Performs risk assessments to determine higher risk EQR focus areas

  • Provides interpretive ad hoc EQR guidance to business units

  • Develops and presents FERC EQR enterprise-wide training

  • Oversees the development and quality improvement of the control environment and processes

  • Assists business units in the development and maintenance of processes and monitoring controls for new business initiatives

  • Reviews written quarterly reports

  • Oversees and coordinates FERC EQR enforcement requests and audits

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Experience: 8+ years

  • Leadership Experience: 2+ years

  • Master's Degree
