Position Specific Description
A position within NextEra Energy’s Technical Accounting group will provide you with the opportunity to build a career at the world’s largest producer of wind and solar energy as we navigate creating a diversified clean energy company. We are seeking professionals who want to utilize their existing audit, consulting, or accounting experience on exciting clean energy projects that add value to the organization.
When our internal stakeholders are evaluating a complex transaction, they look to us to provide clear and accurate accounting and financial advice. This is a unique opportunity that will allow you to develop an in-depth understanding of complex accounting topics and build a business acumen within the renewable energy industry in a fast-paced environment.
You will help management within the Technical Accounting group research complex financial and technical accounting issues relating to joint ventures, business combinations, consolidations, investments, leases, revenue recognition, consulting with business partners on complex technical accounting issues, and much more.This is a highly visible role allowing you to work directly with a broad group of stakeholders, including senior executives, across the organization.
The nature of this role means no two projects will be the same. As part of our technical accounting team, you will evaluate the accounting implications of deal structures and develop solutions to complex issues to help our business partners meet their objectives. You will need to think on your feet and challenge existing practices, collaborate with colleagues, and balance risk with business partner expectations. Additionally, cross functional development opportunities will be provided to other parts of the organization such as treasury, venture investments, and finance.
The ideal candidate will have:
A demonstrated interest in the renewable energy industry, deal structuring, complex accounting, and other transaction-based activities
2+ years public accounting experience or combination of public accounting and industry experience in areas of accounting research and/or financial reporting
Desire to develop an extensive knowledge of US GAAP
Previous exposure to technical accounting is a plus, but we are primarily interested in high performers with the ability to solve complex problems
Ability to research and resolve emerging issues in fast paced environment
Communication skills (written and oral)
Leadership, project management skills, and commitment to building a high performing team
Work independently with little to no supervision
Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point proficiency
Experience working at the Financial Accounting Standards Board
Seek and embrace opportunities which give exposure to different situations, environments, and perspectives
Understands and consults on impacts to credit and other financial metrics
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
This role is located at our headquarters in Juno Beach, FL and will report directly to the Director of Accounting Policy and Research.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
• Prepares financial reports in a timely manner that are in compliance with GAAP and accurately reflect the financial status of the company
• Assures accounting integrity of corporate financial data through the implementation of appropriate internal controls
• Independently prepares schedules and journal entries
• Keeps abreast of and applies GAAP, SEC regulations, and relative company policies, practices and procedures
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned
