Develop real-time strategies for operating in the SPP Integrated Market Place. This involves submitting cost and operating data to SPP for Empire’s generation fleet, monitoring Real-Time P&L to ensure we are running our fleet in an economical manner, and ensuring that resources are on/off to follow SPP’s dedication instructions. Assist senior traders in the training and guiding of entry level supply specialists. The goal of this position is to optimize our resource fleet to meet our load requirements in a least cost approach. This position is a rotational shift on a 5 week rotation.
This position involves assisting with the Day-Ahead desk. Responsible for following the strategy laid out by the Day-Ahead Trader. This involves updating our generation offer curves, plant capacity, plant status, ancillary curves, etc. and submitting it to SPP. On the weekends, this position will be responsible for our Day-Ahead submissions.
On the real-time desk, this position requires updating any generation data that has changed since submitted.
Validating our day-ahead and real-time bid/offer submissions. Will need the ability to communicate with IT to resolve any submission issues.
Analyze and validate market results for SPP to ensure that we are most efficiently operating to minimize our costs. Includes analyzing to see if plants are able to operate consistently within the confines of the results and making changes when necessary.
Ability to learn quickly and make fast decisions while under pressure. Must develop a solid understanding of Empire’s LOAD, Generation, and Transmission constraints. Progress further to gain a solid grasp of the entire SPP market place.
Maintain a comprehensive understanding of risk management techniques.
Eventually, develop and train associate specialists to help them optimize our portfolio in a more efficient manner.
Must have a strong desire to grow in their position and will take every opportunity to learn new things and develop stellar working relationships.
Education & Experience
Bachelors Degree in Business or a technical field such as Engineering or adequate experience in wholesale energy marketing and procurement.
At the Mid-level, the right candidate would have basic knowledge of over-the-counter markets and how they operate.
Familiarity with power markets would be a plus.
