Has the overall responsibility of constructing and modifying substations cost effectively while ensuring quality construction. Also responsible for maintaining substations such that they operate reliably and safely to ensure quality service for Liberty Utilities customers. This position is responsible for a division of substations.
Lead and direct LU's Substation Operations which entails 1) Oversee substation construction activities within division ensuring that each project is on budget and on time and that quality of each project will protect the substation asset and provide for reliable operation. 2) Oversee substation maintenance activities within division to ensure reliable operation (which is tracked and reported monthly) and maximize the life of substation assets while staying within O&M budget.
Promote, monitor and enforce area safety program emphasizing individual responsibility and ensuring compliance with all applicable procedures, work rules, regulations and codes.
Maintain 24-hour-a-day availability to respond to substation emergencies to minimize their scope and duration.
Be familiar with both transmission and distribution system capabilities such that any flexibility within the system can be utilized to mitigate the duration of any substation emergency. Clearly communicate with other managers responsible for the operation of the transmission and distribution system.
Analyze substation equipment and functionality to develop a comprehensive strategy for equipment replacement to aid in the development of the Construction Budget. Also, develop an O&M budget and maintenance plan based on equipment condition and on adhering to NERC requirements.
Develop a highly skilled workforce capable of constructing, troubleshooting, and maintaining complex mechanical, electrical, and control systems associated with substations. Provide information/training on issues with equipment in the industry and on new techniques and tools that help analyze the functionality of equipment.
Education & Experience
Experience as a substation electrician or, Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with substation experience. A thorough understanding of the principles, purpose and operation of substation electrical and mechanical equipment, a practical knowledge of substation construction techniques, transportation, welding, masonry, and carpentry.
