JEA Estimator Senior in Jacksonville, Florida
Under limited supervision, leads and trains others in forecasting project costs and preparing conceptual class 5 through definitive class 1 estimates, as well as preparing detailed quantity take-offs from construction drawings and specifications. Job requires a detailed knowledge of the methods, procedures, processes and techniques of project cost estimate development and analysis, sufficient to perform a broad range of complex professional activities. Judgment is required to analyze and adapt methods, techniques, and procedures because guidelines are not completely applicable to the work or may have gaps in specificity. Identifies and suggests solutions to more complex problems. Completed work is evaluated periodically for effectiveness in meeting requirements or specified results. Job requires regular contact with consultants, people in other work groups and frequent interaction with individuals in leadership positions. * Lead and train others in estimate development to include forecasting, analysis, and reporting tasks. * Establish and implement procedures for project cost estimating and management of historical data. * May prepare highly advanced and complex technical project estimates. * May identify potential events which could significantly affect the project cost, determine the cost impact, and recommend cost effective alternative solutions to project delays. * Collaborate with engineers in various disciplines to make judgments related to the cost of work activities and identify cost savings opportunities. * Oversee estimating and cost analysis. * Prepare material take-offs and review take-offs of others from planning documents or engineering drawings. * Review and evaluate project proposal documents and specific work orders to determine the scope of the technical and construction work requirements. * Provide technical guidance and training to other employees. * Develop and maintain spreadsheets, databases, and other computerized records. * Support, interpret, and apply cost and project budget programs. * May serve as team leader to direct specific tasks. * May visit job sites as necessary. * Perform other job-related work as assigned,
OPEN REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Construction Technology, Business Administration, or a related field and four (4) years of estimating experience. Experience specializing in estimating utility projects is preferred. OR Eight (8) year combination of education, training, and experience, which must include four (4) years of estimating experience. Experience working for a major utility or engineering consulting firm specializing in utility design and construction is preferred.
