Job Summary
The IT Hosting Manager is responsible for overseeing the enterprise hosting environment, which includes Windows and Red Hat Linux servers, VMware and Nutanix virtual environments, NetApp Storage, and AWS and Azure cloud infrastructure. This role ensures the stability, security, and efficiency of hosting services, supporting business-critical applications and services for a large-scale utility enterprise. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in managing on-premises and cloud environments, optimizing performance, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Hosting Infrastructure Management
Lead the administration, maintenance, and optimization of Windows Server and Red Hat Linux environments across on-premises and cloud platforms.
Lead the administration, maintenance, and optimization of storage and backup/recovery platforms.
Oversee the design, deployment, and lifecycle management of cloud workloads, ensuring best practices for security, cost optimization, and performance.
Develop and implement strategies for workload placement across on-premises data centers and cloud environments to meet operational and financial objectives.
Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning for critical infrastructure.
Develop and maintain technology and projectroadmaps to build new capabilities and consolidate and standardize our hosting technology portfolio over time.
Manage operational budgets, vendor contracts, and project portfolio for the IT hosting team.
Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Operational Excellence & Security
Implement and enforce security policies, compliance frameworks, and best practices for hosting infrastructure.
Manage patching, configuration management, and vulnerability remediation for Windows, Linux, Storage, and cloud environments.
Monitor and optimize system performance, leveraging automation and observability tools to ensure proactive issue resolution.
Lead incident response and root cause analysis efforts for hosting-related outages or security incidents.
Conduct/support regular security audits and assessments.
Leadership & Collaboration
Manage a team of system administrators and cloud engineers, providing leadership, mentorship, and career development.
Foster a collaborative team culture and promote continuous learning and development.
Collaborate with IT security, application, and network teams to ensure seamless integration and performance across the enterprise.
Coordinate with Program Managers, application leads, and vendors to develop/enhance applications, infrastructure, and end user computing platforms in a timely, cost effective, predictable, secure, reliable manner. Build strong relationships with internal IT Program Managers, Business Unit Leaders, and IT Operations organizations to ensure coordination across multiple products.
Engage with business stakeholders to understand requirements and align hosting solutions with organizational goals.
Manage vendor relationships, licensing, and service agreements related to hosting infrastructure.
Cloud & Automation Strategy
Drive automation initiatives using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell, AWS CloudFormation).
Guide the organization’s hybrid cloud strategy, optimizing the use of AWS and Azure services alongside on-premises resources.
Stay up to date with emerging technologies and trends in cloud computing, server management, and enterprise hosting.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
7+ years of experience managing enterprise hosting environments, including Windows, Linux, and cloud platforms.
Strong expertise in Windows Server (Active Directory, Group Policy, PowerShell) and Red Hat Linux (RHEL, Satellite, Ansible).
Strong expertise in enterprise storage, backup/recovery, and business continuity implementation and strategy development.
Hands-on experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, VPC, RDS, IAM, Lambda, etc.), Azure services, and hybrid cloud architectures.
Familiarity with automation tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or PowerShell DSC.
Understanding of security best practices and compliance frameworks preferably relevant to the utility industry.
Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Splunk, Broadcom Unified Infrastructure Manager/DX Netops/Application Portfolio Monitoring/Spectrum, AWS CloudWatch).
Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
Experience with disaster recovery planning and implementation.
Preferred Qualifications
AWS certifications (AWS Certified Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator, or similar).
Microsoft certifications (MCSE, Azure Administrator) or Red Hat certifications (RHCSA, RHCE).
Experience in the utility industry or other highly regulated environments.
Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and DevSecOps methodologies.
Experience managing large-scale projects or initiatives.
