Become an Energy Efficiency Engineer 3 at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll support SCE’s portfolio of energy efficiency (EE) programs. These programs have multi-million-dollar budgets and incentivize to adopt energy efficient measures or behaviors to deliver energy savings. Within these programs, you’ll provide oversight and support to the Ex Ante review (CPUC mandated process) and QA/QC process for both Custom projects. The responsibilities for this position will include technical review and communication of status to key partners, management of assigned vendors and tracking of their activities, and supporting Custom QA/QC’s senior engineers several in other technical efforts; many in collaboration with CPUC staff and consultants. You will play a critical role as key support for senior engineers, operationalizing requirements, and providing oversight over data and installation procedures. You will have accountability and ownership over discretely defined deliverables and need strong cross-functional collaboration skills and a desire to learn business sense to operationalize requirements.

  • Provide an oversight to Strategic Energy Management (SEM) and Normalized Metered Energy Consumption (NMEC) product/Process including policy, project management, strategy and planning.

  • Responsible for both SCE’s legacy SEM and 3P Implemented SEM (SW Higher Education Energy Performance (HEEP) and Local Public Energy Performance (PEP)) projects review and quality.

  • Lead internal coordination for SEM and NMEC with Customer Programs & Services (CP&S) Programs and Energy Division (ED) Staff at CPUC, such as communications with CPUC ED staff/consultants for ED selected projects, discussions on project quality, policy discussions, etc. (such interactions can take place several times a week).

  • Represent Custom QA/QC team as the SEM lead in the Technical Policy Oversight Team (TPOT) to address technical policy and guidance from CPUC Decisions, Resolutions, Dispositions and memos.

  • Responsible for vendor management, and training for 3rd party review firms involved in SEM and NMEC projects review in accordance with CPUC requirements.

  • Represent Custom QA/QC team as the SEM lead to support the Statewide SEM working group.

  • Lead Early Screening Document (ESD) process, review, QC in accordance with 3P Implemented Contract requirements, and the maintenance of ESD process procedure manuals.

  • Provide technical/engineering support to the EE programs and Contract Managers.

  • Review and provide technical oversight of savings analysis of complex custom projects.


The essentials

  • Five or more years' engineering experience.

  • General knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods and practices necessary to perform complex assignments.

The preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or related technical field.

  • Two or more years’ work experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform complex assignments.

  • Two or more years’ work experience with IOU-led Energy Efficiency programs, policies, and methodologies.

  • Experience with technical processes and standards of the CPUC.

  • Proficient in technical writing.

  • Comprehension of calculating energy savings, including methods and assumptions used.

  • Ability to own assigned tasks and overcome challenges with moderate support.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with hypothesis driven approach.

  • Experience providing exceptional service to internal and external customers and partners.

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid .The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
