Summary

As an Engineer at Oncor you will play a vital role in the planning, design, maintenance, and enhancement of our transmission and distribution systems. You'll have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects that contribute to the stability and sustainability of the electrical grid. Current projects within the company include: system protection architecture and design, system capacity upgrades, substation and transmission line design, system impact / performance studies, system automation technology applications, new microprocessor equipment applications, automated metering systems, material & equipment specification review, and emerging technology projects. Responsibilities include performing technical system studies, developing and preparing recommendations, assisting field personnel in solving operational issues and communicating action plans to appropriate personnel and entities.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned. Directly or through others, the incumbent:

  • Accurately develop and maintain complex computer models of the electric delivery system that are used to simulate the operation of the electric delivery system.

  • With minimum supervision, prepares plans, standards, and operating procedures consistent with good engineering practice.

  • Incorporates personnel and public safety as a priority in the design and operation of system projects.

  • Effectively communicates and resolves most issues with other work groups while presenting detailed documentation and plans ranging from slightly complex to complex design.

  • Effectively manages a significant number of projects while maintaining work product quality, reliability, and volume.

  • Develop new processes and tools that benefit the group in the analysis of the electric system and multiple large data sets of historical operating conditions.

  • Promote environmental responsibility, corporate citizenship, and ethical conduct while setting a standard of excellence.

  • Work independently and be able to train and coach newer less experienced engineers.

  • Perform power flow studies using CYME including creating and maintaining underlying databases

  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office software including PowerPoint, Word and Excel with VBA skills

  • Technical decision making, good interpersonal skills, organization skills, and effective oral and written communication skills

  • Software Automation and Scripting is a plus

  • Performs all essential aspects and functions of the job as well as any other specific job requirements.

Education & Experience

  • Associate Engineer

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering is required.

  • Applicants that are Engineers In Training with the ability to become registered PE in Texas are encouraged to apply.

  • Applicants with 0-2 years of applicable electric utility experience are encouraged to apply.

  • Ability to work with moderate supervision.

  • Engineer

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering is required.

  • Applicants with 2 years of applicable electric utility experience are encouraged to apply.

  • Ability to learn quickly with moderate, close supervision.
