AES Indiana is seeking to fill multiple substation protection and control engineering positions to work in our Indianapolis, Indiana offices. The substation P&C engineer will work on the design and implementation of new and existing utility substations ranging from 13.2kV to 345kV. All experience levels will be considered for these positions and compensation will be commensurate with experience.
The successful candidate will be tasked with the development and execution of utility substation P&C designs, calculations, and studies. They will work either alone or as part of a team to design, review, direct, and support substation protection and control projects that vary in complexity and scope.
The AES Indiana substation team is a dynamic group that works together to solve problems quickly and provide reliable solutions for our customers and the community.
Key Areas of Responsibilities
Complete substation protection and control designs including panel arrangements, one lines/single lines, three lines, AC schematics, DC elementary, equipment wiring and relay panel wiring.
Detailed analysis of existing protection schemes to identify weaknesses and propose improvements.
Develop cable schedules and bill of materials.
Application and interconnection of SCADA and communication systems within the substation.
Relay settings calculations and system coordination studies.
Create and analyze T&D relay settings and logic diagrams.
Review of system fault events and recommendation of remedial actions when required.
Iteratively work to achieve best design outcome considering cost, project scope, constructability, and consistency with existing practices.
Coordinate design activities with other multi-discipline project team members.
Act as a representative of AES Indiana to the public and our customers.
Interact and consult with other substation team members to incorporate existing standards and best practices into substation designs.
Develop engineering equipment and services specifications.
Manage project documents.
Assist with equipment procurement.
Ensure project schedules are met.
Support construction activities with technical expertise and onsite technical direction when required.
Required Talents, Skills, Expertise, Education
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power systems from an ABET accredited program
Working understanding of power system symmetrical components
Team and independent work skills
A high level of interpersonal communication skills, including a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
AutoCAD software skills are preferred
Professional Engineer registration or plan to become registered is preferred
Prior utility or consulting experience is a plus
