Under general supervision, is responsible for labor and material specification development, budget development, material procurement, and bid review of assigned projects. Employee will be responsible for assisting as needed in the diagnosis of mechanical equipment issues such as; pumps, valves, heat exchangers, boilers, piping, pulverizers, ductwork, turbines, and other miscellaneous mechanical equipment. Employee will provide technical direction to both contracted and plant personnel, as needed.

1)Inspect boilers, ductwork, fans, pulverizers, condensers, pumps, piping systems, turbines, and other associated equipment during outages and overhauls

2)Create, scope, and budget future work plans for maintenance and replacement of critical mechanical assets.

3)Reports and maintains current programs which assist the plant’s operations and maintenance division

4)Prepares estimates, construction drawings, material specifications and lists, procurement forms, work orders, contracts, and property record reports

5)Instructs and trains less senior or less experienced personnel on the technical aspects of their job, as assigned

6)Serves as a representative of the Company, as assigned

Maintain project quality and minimize rework by ensuring approved Management of Change (MoC) process is completed for all applicable projects and avoiding an outage extension or forced event within 30 days of project in-service date. Properly closeout all capital projects by completing project closeout activities within 90 days of project in-service date. Ensure personal and contractor safety performance by meeting or exceeding AES safety walk target and completing contractor safety policy requirements. Control project costs by completing economic evaluations for all applicable projects during budget process and for major emergent work and maintaining projects costs within allowed limits of approved cost estimate. Ensure Supply Chain engagement in procurement activities by providing bid specifications to Supply Chain in accordance with the US SBU Fleet Scheduled Outage Best Practice Guidebook schedule and providing Supply Chain with early notification in accordance with Spend Under Management Index (SUMI) requirements. Provide generating station operations & maintenance support by adequately responding to operational & maintenance support requests in a timely and cooperative manner and actively participating in US SBU technical working groups as assigned.

  • Bacherlor´s Degree or equivalent

  • Experience in Electric Utility, Power Generation

  • Strong computer skills to include Microsoft Suite

  • Experience in project management with demonstrated ability to work in a team environment

  • Strong communicator both oral and written

  • Strong platform or public speaking skills for making presentations

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively with others as well as operate with a minimum of supervision

  • Pulverized coal-fired generating unit project, inspection, and troubleshooting experience preferred.

  • Ability to support a 24/7 operation

  • Five to seven years of experience.
