Under direct or general supervision, reports to a designated supervisor of a section, division, or department. Responsible for general and specific assignments involving basic and complex types of plans, investigations, equipment, controls logic, controls networking, and operational problems. Employ diversified knowledge of controls engineering principles and practices. Coordinates detailed phases of major projects such as equipment design and development, tests, specifications, application studies, analyses of system or process troubles, research investigations, system planning studies and preparation of technical reports. Duties require a complete knowledge of accepted practices in the specialty area and a knowledge of principles and practices in related specialties, in order to resolve a variety of highly complex problems, such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard materials and difficult coordination requirements. Has supervisory guidance only in terms of specific objectives and critical issues and has authority to make independent decisions on engineering practices and methods.
Coordinates & executes technical investigations, engineering economic studies, operating studies, design, tests, long range plans, forecasts, cost estimates, computations, inspections, inventories and reports as may be required for the completion of assignments
Knowledge of field instrumentation and configuration of instrumentation in Process and Electrical Power Generation Controls Systems
Process knowledge of electric industry generation plants and understand Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams and electrical drawings
Knowledge of DCS, PLC, and controls networking systems from multiple vendors (GE Mark VI, Emerson Ovation, Rockwell Automation, Modicon, and others)
Knowledge of general boiler tuning, mill tuning, Burner Management System logic, Turbine Controls and valve tuning, and Environmental Controls tuning (FGD, Bag house, ACI, SCR, SBS, etc.)
Knowledge of Ovation Data Links to various field equipment (CEMS Data loggers, SEL relays, PLC's, etc) and associated communication interfaces (Modbus, TCP/IP, etc.)
Knowledgeable in network practices, PC based operating systems, and network switching and firewall technology. Specifically in regards to NERC CIP regulatory requirements
Understanding of general cyber security practices and appliances such as patch deployment, anti-virus, SIEM, backup and recovery, and change management systems. Ovation OSC experience is a plus
Develop, review, and implement network architecture standards and security practices for Industrial and Electrical Power Generation Control Systems
Provide engineering support of control systems for issues as they arise
Experience in Electric Utility, Power Generation
Strong computer skills to include Microsoft Suite
Experience in project management with demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
Strong communicator both oral and written
Strong platform or public speaking skills for making presentations
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively with others as well as operate with a minimum of supervision
Pulverized coal-fired generating unit project, inspection, and troubleshooting experience preferred.
Ability to support a 24/7 operation
Bachelor´s Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering
