A high school graduate or equivalent with a high degree of mechanical and electrical/electronic aptitude and experience or formal training in electricity, electronics, instrumentation, controls, mathematics and physics. Must pass the EEI Tech Test. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to operate electrical and electronic test equipment, read and interpret electrical/electronic drawings, interpret ladder logic, Boolean and SAMA (Scientific Apparatus Makers Association) logic diagrams. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to interpret P&I drawings and basic knowledge of process instrumentation and calibration procedures. All other general qualifications such as willingness to devote time toward continuing with formal education, safety awareness, previous job performance, attendance and punctuality records will be considered in the evaluation of job applicants.

Additional consideration will be given for the following job-related training or experience:

An Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent; Licensed Electrician, “Journeyman” level of experience, or electrical trade school graduate; Emerson Ovation Distributed Controls System Training. Hart Smart Field Communication Technologies. Experience with high voltage (22 KV and above) power systems. Experience with power system relay operations, relay calibration and coordination. Any other qualifications contributing to the applicant’s ability to do the job.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Performs work in connection with testing, inspecting, calibrating, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair and replacement of all power plant, electrical, electro-mechanical and electronic systems and equipment including process control and indication systems.

  • Assignments include, but are not limited to, such systems as: Electro-Hydraulic Control (EHC), Turbine Supervisory Controls, Boiler & Furnace Safety & Shutdown System, Distributive Control Systems, Continuous Emission Monitors, Data Acquisition Computers and a wide variety of other mechanical, and electrical instruments, devices and electrical equipment, apparatus and facilities necessary to maintain safe, continuous and efficient operation of a power plant.

  • Diagnoses and repairs or replaces faulty electronic components, such as circuit boards, transmitters, using electronic test equipment and hand tools. May diagnose and replace faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment. Replaces faulty electrical components of equipment, such as relays, switches, and motors, using hand tools. Replaces electric motor bearings and rewires motors.

  • Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment, following electrical code and blueprints, using hand tools and voltage testers.

  • Repairs, replaces, and cleans breakers, motor control system, and switch gear (4kV-480v).

  • Racks out breakers and performs installation and demolition of control systems. Responsible for troubleshooting turbo generator controls, coal handling controls, and air compressor controls.

  • Performs Precipitator maintenance and preventative maintenance semi-annually on breakers, electric motors, transmitters, and air compressors. Includes removing, tearing apart and rebuilding probes from cooling towers. (1-2 day job) and calibration of equipment.

  • Maintains station batteries and plant lighting circuits. Maintains and refills water in plant flooded cell batteries in Relay rooms.

  • Responsible for maintaining plant CEMS equipment, daily readings on emissions monitoring equipment and cooling towers.

  • Responsible for daily cleanup and general housekeeping of shops, relay rooms, and miscellaneous areas around the plant as assigned.

  • Operating company vehicles to and from job assignments.

  • Fills out daily report of job assignments and miscellaneous computer duties.

In addition to the primary duties listed above, the employee may be called upon to perform other work as circumstances require.
