SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION

The Hydraulic Technician maintains and repairs vehicles, power operated equipment, and trailers. The repairs include vehicle engines, drivetrains, and performs preventive maintenance in direct repair or outsourcing. Maintains and repairs hydraulic systems of machinery and equipment, such as booms, augers, PTO's, etc. Maintains and repairs mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on cars, trucks, and motorized equipment. Fabricates equipment, tools and repairs for equipment as needed.

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Ensure all actions are consistent with NorthWestern Energy's values, mission, and strategic business objectives

  • Maintain and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on vehicles, heavy equipment, derricks, booms, augers, PTO's, and other machinery

  • Maintain and repair vehicle drive trains

  • Fabricate tools and parts as needed

  • Order parts, scan invoices, and complete other computer or paperwork related tasks

  • Install and repair electrical accessories and wiring

  • Perform preventive maintenance in direct repair or outsourcing

  • Assume full responsibility for emergency repairs

  • Complete work to minimize out of service time of any piece of equipment

  • Perform all work as requested by supervisor

  • Work overtime including evenings and weekends in response to acute service needs

  • Travel away from home area and stay overnight up to three nights per week on occasion

  • Majority of work completed in field environment as a mobile technician

  • For mobile technician work, travel is required

  • Lift up to 35 pounds frequently and up to 70 pounds occasionally

MARGINAL WORK FUNCTIONS

*These functions may be considered essential based on location and other factors.

  • Maintain and repair vehicle engines*

  • Drive to installation locations*

  • Organize equipment and perform regular and preventative maintenance*

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of two years technical training from a college or trade school or 3 years of maintenance experience in the operations area

  • First Aid/CPR Certification

  • Must be able to demonstrate and maintain a good safety record

  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record; valid commercial driver's license or willingness to obtain
