RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement and manage the AES Environmental Management System for the AES generating station.

  • Develop and track site specific environmental objectives

  • Develop and track a site-specific compliance matrix

  • Provide plant personnel with environmental compliance guidance and training.

  • Ensure site compliance with all aspects of environmental regulations and prepare monthly, semi-annual and annual monitoring air quality, water quality and hazardous waste reports to various agencies including the California Energy Commission, California Air Resources Board, South Coast Air Quality Management District, US EPA, State and Regional Water Quality Control Boards, local Certified Unified Program Agencies (CUPA).

  • Develop and implement a process for managing the environmental data collection for all agency and corporate required reports, plans, and procedures timely and accurately.

  • Ensure all environmental permits are current and accurate.

  • Ensure all facility systems and processes are compliant with environmental permit conditions and are accurate and maintained.

  • Coordinate required sampling and analysis per environmental permits.

  • Report on and provide management direction for the mitigation and correction of environmental deficiencies or excursions.

  • Manage and lead the internal auditing program of the corporate Environmental Management System

  • Support external environmental audits as required.

  • Develop and track site specific environmental budgets

  • Assist in the business planning and environmental management of AES Southland

  • Provide support to the operations and maintenance teams for all aspects of environmental management and compliance.

  • Implement industry leading environmental and data management processes and operating procedures for AES Southland

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Interested candidates must have a minimum of 5 years experience in progressively responsible and diverse positions in environmental compliance and regulatory audits or demonstrate exceptional knowledge of California environmental regulations with the desire to be a leader in their field.

  • Experience with operational environmental management and compliance in an industrial facility

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or related engineering or scientific discipline required

  • Ability to work under pressure within strict deadlines and while managing multiple priorities.

  • Strong working knowledge of environmental management practices.

  • Detail oriented; ability to read, analyze and interpret environmental regulations.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact with a diverse group.

  • Self-driven, results oriented with a clear focus on high quality outcomes and business success.

  • Work overtime, or irregular hours as needed to support reliable operations of the facility.

  • Work may require travel to other Southland plants.

  • Must be able to successfully obtain a TWIC Card.

  • Must be currently authorized to be permanently employed in the United States.

  • Valid California driver’s license

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Experience in the power generation industry.

  • Experience working with South Coast Air Quality Management District, Regional Water Quality Control Boards, and California Energy Commission Agency compliance experience highly desirable.
