  • Responsible for creating, implementing, and managing the Health and Safety programs for the Southland CCGT business while interfacing with the legacy team.

  • Responsible for managing regulatory and corporate required aspects of safety and health programs

  • Promotes continuous improvement in EH&S performance through annual training, program enhancements, culture changes, values and safety beliefs at all levels of the Organization.

  • The Safety Manager challenges existing systems, develops and implements innovative ideas focused on improving in the areas of Health and Safety.


  • Responsible and accountable for the design and implementation of the AES Safety Management System.

  • Maintain and continually improve the Safety Management System, focusing on integrating Safety Management into Work Practices and Plant Systems

  • Lead activities and efforts around Health and Safety-related incidents and investigations.

  • Perform analysis of data to identify trends and set targets in alignment with Corporate Goals, and develop proactive action plans.

  • Contribute to achieve Safety targets in support of business objectives.

  • Maintain compliance with local, state and federal regulatory Health and Safety requirements.

  • Manage and implement local Health and Safety compliance audits to monitor progress of continuous improvement and compliance with AES Corp Standards.

  • Establishment of external EHS Audit Plan.

  • Work in collaboration with the Business Leader on the tactical development and deployment of loss prevention strategies.

  • Provide guidance, interpretation and verification for KPI’s.

  • Direct, develop and deliver training programs.

  • Support Corporate Safety Initiatives


  • Candidates must have four (4) years’ college degree in science, engineering and/or safety or equivalent experience.

  • A minimum of ten (10) years’ of experience in an electric distribution/generation business (preferred)

  • Must be results oriented, self-motivated, and able to work with limited direct supervision.

  • Able to analyze cause and effect situations.

  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills, excellent communication skills with the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Proactive approach to the execution of duties and responsibilities.

  • Strong communication & influencing skills; with demonstrated ability to effectively build relationships at all levels in the project to quickly assess, understand and make recommendations to resolve concerns.

  • Be able to lift and carry objects of 50 pounds or less.

  • Be able to stand, climb and walk for extended periods within facility work areas.

  • Be able to work extended, or irregular hours as needed to support reliable operations of the facility.

  • Ability to travel to other AES Southland businesses.


  • Must have strong knowledge of OSHA/CalOSHA rules and regulations

  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA, ANSI and ISO Standards

  • Effective organizational skills with commitment to deadlines.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and influence at all levels of an organization

  • Ability to build effective relationships; possess strong interpersonal skills

  • Ability to review, analyze and draw conclusions from data; effectively use the conclusions to make and communicate key recommendations

  • Has an attitude that “finishes the work” to a high level of professionalism
