Job Summary

Proactively manage and execute effective and strategic treasury financing activities including debt/equity offerings, interest expense optimization, debt portfolio management, and revolving credit facilities as well as related compliance reporting. Focus on incorporating automation and efficiency gains through the integration of financial systems, continuous improvement in operational processes, and delivering exceptional cross-functional and cross-departmental customer service. Advances use of analytics for planning, decision-making and integration with Financial Planning & Analysis deliverables.

Oversees corporate credit function, including counterparty risk evaluation and financial analysis. Evaluates financial risk and financial reporting as it relates to treasury operations, including but not limited to annual interest expense, amount of debt outstanding, fixed/floating mix, revolving credit facilities, working capital, rating agencies, and mergers and acquisitions activities. Assists in meeting overall finance department’s policies and regulatory requirements. Assigned Treasury Department and Finance Organization special projects. Responsibilities will include managing personnel, overseeing their work deliverables as well as the professional development of team members.

Essential Functions

  • Manages day-to-day treasury activity related to Long term financing including but not limited to interest payment, compliance activity, repurchase activities, and liability management.

  • Advance analytics and forecasting capabilities for Treasury functions, including management of 10-year debt model and forecast and short-term cash forecasting. Find opportunities to leverage dashboards, SAP/BPC reporting and FIS Integrity (CNP’s Treasury Management System).

  • Ensures compliance with the provisions in financing agreements (indentures, supplemental indentures, credit agreements, servicing agreements, etc. ) and SOX testing and control environment (including automated and manual controls).

  • Manage corporate credit function, including financial review of key counterparties and utilization of tools and resources to protect company’s exposure to 3rd party risk.

  • Analyzes and assists with execution of financing plans and interest rate risk hedging strategies. Analyzes financing structures (short and long term) and explains/shows their impact on EPS, balance sheet, tax effects and financial ratios.

  • Implements, monitors and manages day-to-day activities related to Treasury compliance.

  • Manages credit facility extension and/or negotiation on a period basis.

  • Evaluates financial risk as it relates to treasury operations, including but not limited to annual interest expense, amount of debt outstanding, size of commercial paper program, revolving credit facilities, credit rating agencies, and capital markets offerings.

  • Develops written testimony for rate cases and similar proceedings, as applicable, before public utility commissions regarding cost of capital, capitalization, credit ratings and various financing matters; Provides ongoing support of requests for information from regulatory bodies.

Essential Functions (cont.)

  • Provides support to the investor relations function and the SEC filing function with respect to financing activities. Understand and manage appropriate accounting procedures and processes.

  • Provides support to internal and external audit requests.

  • Fosters relationships with external relations including legal counsel, and advisors, bankers, auditors, etc. Interacts and develops internal relationships with various departments, including but not limited to Legal, Accounting, Tax, Finance and Operations.

  • Conducts benchmark studies of banks and their services to evaluate whether they fit CNP’s requirements.

  • Assesses performance benchmarks and recommends changes when warranted.

  • Operates in a backup capacity regarding daily cash requirements and execution of daily financing decisions, including but not limited to company’s various cash flow forecasts and performance of financial modeling.

  • Monitors bank service fees and addresses quality issues as well as oversee the associated Treasury Department fee reporting, at least quarterly.

  • Develops technology strategies to support treasury operations, specifically Long Term Debt related. Keeps abreast of advances in treasury technologies and assess applicability.

  • Recommends, implements and maintains process improvements, including the use of Robotics technology.

  • Provides technical and other support for mergers and acquisitions and other projects as needed.

  • Assist in the preparation of BOD related material and present, if applicable.

  • Additional duties as directed by supervisor.

Education Description

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance or Business Administration.

  • CTP, CFA, or CPA preferred

  • M.B.A. or Masters of Accounting preferred

Experience

  • Requires seven (7) years relevant experience, management experience or experience managing a process

  • Experience preferred:

  • ​​​​​​Exposure to utilities

  • Understanding of the equity and fixed income capital markets, disclosure regulations, and the company’s prior communications to the investment community

  • Experience in the preparation of financial schedules and SEC filings including some disclosures

  • Extensive experience in building complex financial models to evaluate various financial plans

  • Experience in presenting and preparing proposals to recommend new products/services

  • Experience in preparing cash forecasts and cash flow analyses
