General Summary of Position:

The Senior Communications Manager will lead and execute high-impact external communications strategies to strengthen NRG’s brand, elevate leadership, and support business priorities. A strategic thinker and strong writer, this individual partners across teams and reports to the Senior Director of Communications. Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute integrated external communications strategies aligned with NRG’s brand, purpose, and business goals.

  • Partner with business units and leaders to identify compelling stories and amplify NRG’s voice in the industry.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal stakeholders (Brand Marketing, Corporate Affairs, Government Affairs, Regulatory, Legal) to ensure message alignment.

  • Lead content creation for press releases, talking points, and external material to support key announcements and business initiatives.

  • Monitor industry trends, news cycles, and competitor activity to inform messaging and communications strategy.

  • Measure and report on communication outcomes to drive ongoing improvement.

  • Contribute to a culture of creativity, collaboration, and accountability within the communications team.

Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to craft and execute strategic communication plans that support reputation and business objectives.

  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills across multiple formats and channels.

  • Experience advising senior leaders and collaborating across departments.

  • Familiarity with digital and social media strategies to support external communications efforts.

  • Strong project management and multitasking skills, with keen attention to detail.

  • Ability to navigate fast-paced environments and communicate clearly under pressure.

  • Proactive, collaborative, and business-minded communicator.

Preferred:

  • Skilled at navigating and influencing in a matrixed environment.

  • Strong project-management skills.

  • Experience using media monitoring tools and project management platforms.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or related field.

  • 7–10 years of experience in external communications, public relations, or media relations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time.

  • Regularly required to use a computer to communicate via online channels.

  • Minimal domestic travel is required – approximately 20%.

  • Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Working Conditions:

  • Open Office Environment – Primary Work Location in Houston, TX.

  • Hybrid work schedule, 3 days in office, 2 days remote work.

  • Reports to the Communications function.
