What You'll Do

JOB TITLE: Civil Engineer, P.E.

NorthStar Energy Services is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Civil Engineer to join the Professional Engineering Consulting team. The successful candidate will support an experienced team of designers and professional engineers who specialize in Energy Projects.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Civil Engineer for this position will be responsible for the development of civil design parameters and independently perform engineering analysis, calculations, and code interpretations as it pertains to the design of Energy Facilities and Midstream Pipelines. NorthStar Energy Services team will provide the training needed to develop proficiency in the following duties and responsibilities for a successful project execution.

What You'll Bring

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • ENGINEERING

  • Surface site development plans such as grading plans, drainage plans, erosional control plans, stormwater prevention plans , floodplain development plans and site-specific permitting; to include, grading design and drainage analysis as applicable.

  • Facilitate geotechnical investigation and field studies.

  • Rigid and flexible pavement roadway design, to include permanent and temporary access road design.

  • Understanding survey data (topographic contour surveys, site surveys, State Plane/UTM coordinate projections) to meet project civil deliverables.

  • Well-versed in acquirement of standards associated with Department of Transportation, American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association, American Petroleum Institute, and United States Army Corps of Engineers requirements.

  • Review pipeline alignment drawings to develop an understanding of pipeline design and operating parameters.

    • Review and evaluate project plans of proposed development and construction activities encroachments within vicinity of pipeline right-of-way to determine constructability and future impacts to pipeline.
  • Perform pipeline stress analysis associated with the encroachment; including, but not limited, heavy equipment, roadway and railroad crossings over existing pipeline and provide pipeline mitigation recommendations as applicable.

  • Interface with private and governmental agencies, third party owners, developers, contractors, engineers, and potential partners to define project parameters and proposal scenarios ; to include, understanding permitting requirements.

  • DELIVERABLE/PROJECT MANAGEMENT

  • Coordinate and communicate project-specific civil deliverables with team members of all disciplines.

  • Research, review, and design integration of Client Standards, Company Standards, Municipality Requirements, and Regulatory Codes as it pertains to project deliverables.

  • Review of site-specific geotechnical reports for purposes of site development.

  • Perform independent QA/QC of drawing deliverables.

  • Review other discipline deliverables to ensure civil designs are properly executed and align with project objectives.

  • Perform field related work to obtain design pertinent information as needed.

  • Review and respond to project RFI’s throughout project-life.

  • Review of detailed shop fabrication drawings or other third-party vendor drawings to ensure compatibility with intended civil design.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • GENERAL

  • US citizen or Permanent Resident

  • Select candidates will be required to participate in an in-person interview .

  • SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Extreme attention to detail, process orientation, and relentless focus on accuracy with a sense of urgency towards project objectives.

  • Strong work ethic and ability to establish priorities among drawing deliverables.

  • Self-directed and self-motivated with the ability to work independently or with engineering and design teams of other disciplines.

  • Ability to react promptly and efficiently shift priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written as well as presentation skills

  • EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.), licensed in the State of Texas

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in civil design

  • Preferred

  • Experience in utilizing AutoCAD software programs

    • Familiarity with Title 49 CFR Parts 192 & 195, ASME B31.4, ASME B31.8, Occupational Safety and Health Administration
  • Construction and field experience
