Job Summary

CenterPoint Energy is looking for an Electric Engineer to join our High Voltage Contract Design Team , located in Houston, TX .

You will have the ability to: be responsible for the coordination of outside Contract Engineering Firms for the design and analysis of the transmission system with regards to reliability, material adequacy, inspection technologies, and replacement of facilities in support of transmission projects.

Essential Functions

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Provide project oversight to assigned Contract Engineering Firms.

  • Provide technical guidance to assigned Contract Engineering Firms and operations staff.

  • Provide technical guidance concerning equipment applications and ratings requirements.

  • Provide technical expertise for utility interconnection requirements of large industrial customers, independent power producers and tie-line interconnections

  • Make presentations (written or oral) to management and others on pertinent issues.

  • Serve as a department representative on task forces, committee, and cross-functional teams.

  • Interface with inspectors, engineers, construction personnel, warehousing personnel, purchasing agents, vendors and management concerning projects and issues.

  • Senior Engineer is expected to be proficient in the above duties and train others.

  • Staff Engineer is expected to be proficient in the above duties, train others, take a lead role in department functions, and assist in the direction of strategic policy for the department

Education Description

Your background includes:

  • Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.

  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license or active pursuit of a PE license in the State of Texas.

Experience

  • Experience: Note: a Master of Science degree in Engineering can be substituted for 1 year of experience. And a PhD degree in Engineering can be substituted for 2 years of experience.

  • Engineer:

  • Requires a minimum of two years of Transmission Line Design experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to communicate either written and verbal communications either in person or through technical equipment such as telephone.

  • Able to demonstrate and apply the manual dexterity to operate a personal computer and common office equipment.

  • Able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

  • Able to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.

  • Able to certify and use personal protective equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hardhat, gloves, protective footwear and earplugs on a daily basis.

  • Able to operate a motor vehicle and drive a motor vehicle daily or for extended time periods, in a safe manner, and enter/exit vehicle unassisted.

Working Conditions

  • Required to participate in CenterPoint Energy's Emergency Operation Plan (EOP).

  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Able to work in an office environment.

  • Able to work indoors in an office environment and outdoors with occasional exposure to all weather conditions, equipment, and noise when at field installation sites.

  • Able to work regular hours, with occasional or mandatory overtime; may be required to work rotating shifts.
