Overview

PPL Electric Utilities is hiring for certified Journeyman Linemen. This is a "shift worker", union position covered by a collective bargaining agreement (CBA).

Proof of Journeyman Lineman certificate required.

The successful completion of a written and physical assessment is required to be considered for these positions. More information regarding testing will be provided via email upon resume review and candidate selection.

Successful candidates must meet a 30-mile residency requirement from their respective work location within six (6) months of start date.

The locations we are hiring for will be in the following regions; specific service center locations will be provided via email prior to testing session.

  • Lehigh/Northeast Region

  • Central/Susquehanna Region

  • Harrisburg/Lancaster Region

All invitations for testing and interviews will be sent via email

Responsibilities

  • In a safe and professional manner, using the proper protective equipment and/or hot line tools as required installs, removes, inspects, and maintains the various components of the transmission and distribution systems.

  • Observes established safety procedures.

  • Performs switching, secures permits, and provides blocking all in accordance with the company’s Energy Control system.

  • Performs work aloft or on the ground on energized transmission and distribution facilities, including the installation and maintenance of streetlight equipment.

  • Performs rigging such as moving, placing, hanging, or erecting structures, transformers, circuit breakers, switching devices, and machinery.

  • Operates backhoes, tensioners, large aerial devices and other equipment necessary to perform the above duties.

  • Performs such other related duties as assigned or as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Satisfactory performance and experience as a Helper –FS-Regional T&D or Helper-FS-Regional T&D-Shift and successful completion of a Helper’s units of instruction for the Journeyman Lineworker Trainee-FS-Shift or Journeyman Lineman Trainee-FS.

  • Satisfactory performance and experience as a Journeyman Lineworker Trainee-FS-Shift or Journeyman Lineman Trainee-FS and successful completion of a Trainee’s units of instruction at all levels for the Journeyman Lineworker-FS-Shift or Journeyman Lineman-FS position.

  • Ability to obtain a valid commercial driver’s License within six (6) months.

  • Working knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials used to perform the above duties.

  • Working knowledge and adherence to the provisions of the safety rules applicable to work performed.

  • Thorough knowledge of the company’s Energy Control system.

  • Working knowledge of computer-based systems pertaining to the job.

  • Ability to interpret sketches, diagrams, and complex specifications.

  • Ability to direct other employees.

  • Strength and endurance to perform the above duties.

PpEl

Remote Work

The company reserves the right to determine if this position will be assigned to work on-site, remotely, or a combination of both. Assigned work location may change. In the case of remote work, physical presence in the office/on-site may be required to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.
