BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The H RS SYSTEM Department of the H SYSTEM OPERATION Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 2 Management vacancy available. (Role: Professional Supervisor)

JOB FUNCTION:

Frontline supervisor overseeing personnel operating the power system, including transmission and distribution operations, generation dispatch, outage management, field response, communications, and related data collection.

Directs and trains personnel, in policies and procedures, and the use of system tools such as EMS, ADMS, OMS, and any other future control room tools for centralized utility operations. Coordinates generation, transmission and distribution system activities to ensure safe, reliable and economic grid operations. Initiates emergency response when appropriate.

Leads and fosters a competitive and service-oriented work culture and exerts high customer value with a safety mindset. Champions change and the LEAN continuous improvement mentality. Serves as the subject matter expert and functional resource, mentoring, advising, and participating in system projects and/or IMT incident response.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations and is the primary point of contact during normal and emergency operations. Reviews energy and grid resource availability and scheduled daily work plans. Coordinates execution of work plans ensuring compliance with safety and operational requirements. Monitors energy resources, power flow and voltages, and directs adjustments as necessary for optimum grid performance. Checks various System logs and reports to ensure data accuracy and follows-up with appropriate process areas.

  • Frontline supervisor for operators and dispatchers. Performs coaching and mentoring on subjects including safety, policies and procedures. Reviews, verifies and modifies work schedule assignments, as required. Prepares employee performance evaluations.

  • Prepares, reviews and adjusts switching orders and hold offs for current system conditions. Coordinates hold off requests and monitors repair order status. Ensures that System displays and diagrams are accurate, and coordinates updates.

  • Primary point of contact for executive communications during high-profile incidents. Coordinates with other first responder agencies, including Fire and Public Safety agencies (e.g, HFD, HPD, MPD), Civil Defense and other utilities during emergencies. Addresses elevated customer questions and concerns. Assists in gathering data for interruption analysis. Participates in IMT emergency response.

  • Performs other duties as assigned. Assists with development of procedures and policies, and for operational technology systems. Performs research and data collections for reports, analyses, and studies. Performs field investigations as needed.

  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

    Knowledge Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of electrical utility, generation, transmission, and distribution systems; normally acquired through job related operational experience.

  • Working knowledge of personal computers and related software applications such as: MS Excel spreadsheets, MS Word processing, etc.

  • Thorough knowledge of policies and procedures contained in such documents as the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Accident Prevention Manual, General Information Manual, etc.

    Skills Requirements

  • Able to work a rotating shift.

  • Ability to identify and distinguish different colors and color hues required to read color coded maps and diagrams.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to handle difficult and/or sensitive issues while using tact, courtesy, and discretion.

  • Supervisory/leadership skills and abilities to work with a variety of individuals occasionally dealing with sensitive, difficult, or confrontational issues.

  • Ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.

  • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver's license. Must meet the standards for frequent required driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy to perform plant, field, and substation visits.

    Hiring Range: The hiring range for the SYSTEM OPERATION SHIFT SUPERVISOR [Req ID 8919] position is $103,500.00 to $134,400.00. The person selected will be placed according to his/her skills and qualifications.
