National Grid Senior Trader, Origination & Price Volatility Management in Hicksville, New York
_About the Position:_
The Trader will work with specialists across Energy Procurement to help develop gas hedging and optimization strategies, execute financial transactions in accordance to approved plans, and automate processes to assist with reporting and market analyses. The role has a direct impact to positively contribute to various stakeholder objectives, such as providing customers with stable commodity costs, contributing to shareholder value, and meeting state regulators’ expectations of appropriate price volatility management.
_Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):_
Deliver process excellence by efficiently executing natural gas financial transactions (such as swaps and options) in accordance with optimization and hedging programs.
Provide customers with stable commodity costs, contribute to shareholder value, and meet state regulators’ expectations of appropriate price volatility management.
Deep understanding of energy markets, particularly natural gas, regarding parameters such as costs, risk metrics, supply diversification, market liquidity, and location.
Work with cross-functional business units to translate objectives and requirements to support change and innovation within National Grid.
The ability to learn new skills and develop different ways of approaching a problem and providing suggestions and solutions to important short- and long-term stakeholder issues.
Assist with the automation of various reporting tasks and market analyses using various computer programming skills, such as VBA, R, Python.
*Knowledge & Experience**Required:*
Bachelor’s degree required, ideally in Finance, Computer Science, or Engineering and 3 years related experience.
Experience in the energy industry preferable, preferably with multi-commodity exposure.
Deep understanding of physical and financial energy, particularly natural gas, markets.
Working knowledge of appropriate risk management practices and associated accounting rules.
Detailed knowledge and understanding of federal and various state regulatory rules and issues affecting the industry.
Knowledgeable of natural gas portfolio management, particularly from the perspective of different state regulators and various risk metrics.
Collaborate with many different stakeholders across multiple geographies and disciplines.
Ability to anticipate customer needs, problems, and opportunities, and assist with the development of appropriate solutions.
Effective communication skills to clearly convey ideas and provide potential solutions.
Preferred Computer programming skills (e.g. VBA, R, Python) to assist with the automation of various reporting tasks and market analyses.
Work within a small team and interact with many different stakeholders.
Assist with the development and trade execution of optimization and hedging strategies.
Automate various processes to add value and save valuable time and resources
